The tall graceful sailing ships that once traded the
Cleddau rivers carrying silks, spices and timber have now
given way to the discerning holidaymaker and most importantly
to the demands of nature. Now designated a National Park and
a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its amazing
array of rare birds, stunning flowers and trees, these beautiful
rivers will provide an unforgettable holiday.
From the lazy winding water at
Blackpool Mill the river
widens at the old trading posts of Landshipping and Lawrenny,
in this section you can dip your toes in the water at the
bottom of the garden or walk along the banks to visit a castle
or two! Carew and Pembroke castles both dominate their own
unique area of the river and thousands of people every year
gaze with amazement at their architecture and beauty.
Villlages such as Cosheston and Cresswell Quay have
their own secluded inlets and nearly all of the hamlets on
the river boast country inns waiting to tempt you with great
food and real ales. Slightly inland, but still within the
borders of the river are many small villages such as Martletwy
which are havens of tranquillity and where the lovely country
lanes are waiting to be discovered.
You will never be able to explore the whole region, but select
one of our Down by the Riverside properties and
you will have the opportunity to live with nature for a while,
fish, swim, sail or just sit under a waterside oak and fantasise
about never going back to the office again!
Take the easy drive to
Tenby, Saundersfoot or Manorbier
for the wide expanses of safe, sandy beaches or visit the
thriving market towns, but return to watch the sun setting
over the flat calm of the Cleddau from your holiday home.
