About Hirwaun

Penwern Fach cottages are a group of 6 charming cottages converted from original stone farm buildings set in rolling Welsh countryside, just outside the beautiful Cenarth Falls. Approached by a short country lane you are assured of a warm welcome with the owner living on site. The cottages are beautifully presented with great attention to detail and guests every comfort taken into account, yet retaining a traditional cottage feel. Set in 10 acres of immaculately presented grounds there is plenty of space to relax, each cottage has its own garden or paved terrace as well as the extensive communal space and facilities including a children’s playground with outdoor games, games room for rainy days, BBQ area, laundry room, football field, seasonal golf driving range and dog walking area for your four legged friends. Children will love identifying the wild animals and birds carved into the large old tree trunk, but perhaps the best bit of which you will never tire is the far reaching views over the glorious Welsh countryside towards the Preseli Hills in the distance, simply breathtaking!

Hirwaun is a very spacious cottage just for 4, attached to the owners house Penwern Fach, it is modern but built along traditional lines with an air sourced heat pump central heating system. Comfortably and stylishly furnished to a high standard, one step leads into the spacious open plan tiled living space, with its vaulted ceiling and exposed A frame beams. Alternatively, there is level access in via the glazed porch, with its ground floor wet room and spacious double bedroom, it is a great option for those guests looking for one level accommodation. There is plenty of space to relax around the wood burning stove and a good sized dining table, while the fitted kitchen is well-equipped. Stairs lead up to the twin bedroom which nestles in the eaves. Dine alfresco on a summer’s evening in your own landscaped area to the side of the cottage, prettily planted with raised beds, two steps lead up to a raised gravel terrace and outside table and chairs, or sit around your own fire pit and simply gaze at the stars which will amaze. Alternatively, take advantage of the communal BBQ area and children will enjoy the extensive grounds, fields and play area.

The popular village of Cenarth is just 1 mile downhill with its range of pubs, cafes and a village shop, set on the river Teifi, the main attraction is its roaring falls, a series of small waterfalls and pools, a sight to behold when the river is in full flow and famous for its salmon leaps. Visit The National Coracle Museum overlooking the river and learn about the making and use of this famous historical and unique vessel. Keen walkers will enjoy exploring the many footpaths, bridle paths and cycle tracks which abound in this area. While bird and wildlife lovers will be amazed with regular sightings of kites, buzzards, badgers, foxes and more.

Guests can take advantage of preferential rates at the Cenarth Falls Resort – Bar Lolfa & Spa nearby which offers the use of its indoor swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, ideal if the weather is inclement or you are looking for that additional treat.

Perfectly positioned on the border of the 3 counties of Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire and Carmarthenshire, you are only 6 miles from the stunning coastline and glorious beaches of Aberporth, with Tresaith, Mwnt and Llangrannog not much further on. The charming market town of Newcastle Emlyn set on the river Teifi is only 3 miles away, or Cardigan with its restored medieval castle, restaurants, wealth of independent traders and farmer’s market is only 7 miles away. Cardigan Bay, designated a Heritage coast because of its rare bird and marine life, is home to bottlenose dolphins, porpoises and grey seals, with occasional sightings of basking sharks, orca and minke whales is just waiting to be explored.
