May Half Term Events in Pembrokeshire

May Half Term is upon us, and from what I’ve seen on my travels through the county delivering hampers to cottages this morning, many of you are making your way down our many coastal roads to your home away from home for the week.

I passed many a car packed full of luggage for the week ahead and if you’re anything like me, I’m sure lots of you are eager to get started with the exciting things you have planned for your stay!

So speaking of exciting things, what’s going on in the county this week? Well Pembrokeshire never fails to disappoint, and there are a number of great family-friendly events happening all across the county. The hardest decision is going to be which to attend!

The St Davids Cathedral Festival kicked off the week’s events last night and is set to continue for the next nine days, coming to a close on the 4th June. The full itinerary includes concerts and performances from the likes of the Claire Jones String Ensemble, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Young Musician of Dyfed, George Nash. Of course, you’ll also get the opportunity to see performances from the Cathedral’s own choir and their Boys Choir. For details and tickets, please see stdavidscathedralfestival.co.uk

The Fishguard Folk Festival takes place this weekend at various locations across the harbour-side town, with a number of concerts, performances, workshops and events happening. Attend a sing-around at 8pm with Gary and Helen Hopwood at the Ship Inn or head to Ffwrn for The Stoned Cherries. Attend a blue grass session at Bennetts Navy Tavern tomorrow, enjoy a performance by Three Legg’d Mare or take part in an Open Mic a Ffwrn! The festival ends with a closing ceremony in the Town Hall with a cobblers awl and a mummers play.

Manorbier hosts their Musical Extravaganza this evening at Manorbier Castle. Organised by the Pembroke Rotary Club, this event features leading swing and jazz bands along with local artists. It runs from 5pm until 9pm.

Venture to Llys Y Fran Country Park and Reservoir this bank holiday for the Welsh Dragon Boat Championship. This annual event sees teams of 15 compete, often for sponsorship, with a family fun day including free entertainment with a bouncy castle and even a magician! The day runs from 9am until 5pm.

The Big Retreat comes to Lawrenny this weekend for a festival dedicated to wellbeing of the mind, body and soul.  Take part in a yoga or pilates class, zumba, ballet fusion or meditation. Learn something new in a chocolate workshop, a creative art workshop or even a spoon carving workshop! You will also have the opportunity to get involved with a range of activities including foraging and surfing. Top off your relaxing weekend with some great music including the likes of local musician Lucy Jones, Ragsy (as seen on The Voice), Lowri Evans and Lee Mason, plus Caroline Harrison and Climbing Trees.
