Where to stay during National Fishing Month ?


July 21st 17 marked the start of the Annual Fishing Month of the year with the underlying idea to encourage all family members to pick up a rod and have a go at fishing! With national fishing month concluding on the 3rd of September this year,  why not take a look at our catch of the day fishing properties and book yourself an unforgettable fishing trip! Here at Coastal Cottages we have a niche set of properties around Pembrokeshire that are perfect for fishing lovers – why? They are set in spectacular locations including designated SSSI areas – a fisherman’s paradise.

To begin, we have the Spectacular Llandyfriog (13309). This property will take your breath away, and not only because of its wonderful position being set right on the banks of the river Teifi (a designated SSSI area), the property itself is a contemporary, uniquely designed, detached house finished to a very high standard. Sleeping 12 in 5 bedrooms, Llandyfriog is the perfect destination for a family fun fishing trip!

Next on our fishing property hotlist is Secret Water (32834 ), a delightful timber clad barn conversion, set on the owners 40 acre smallholding which includes 10 acres of woodland and tidal river frontage.

Being set in the peaceful countryside, enjoy exploring the river by boat or canoe. Children will be delighted when catching their first fish – sea bass down on the river. Alternatively spend a day wandering through the woodland’s or helping the owners care for their Wiltshire horn sheep and chickens. Looking for a cosier fishing cottage? Kingfisher (32407) is one to definitely consider. Sleeping 4 in 2 bedrooms and welcoming 2 pets, this cosy barn conversion has superb views of the valley and the picturesque lake with resident wildlife.

French doors lead from the beautifully furnished sitting room to the lawned garden. A path leads down to the lake where you can enjoy a picnic whilst bird watching or otter spotting! Or try your hand at coarse fishing for Roach and Carp. The well-equipped cottage is an excellent choice throughout the year offering peace and tranquility and is an ideal base for exploring Pembrokeshire’s marvellous beaches, such as Little Haven where you can join the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

Next up we have the magnificent Hayscastle Farm House (30210). A beautifully renovated old farmhouse near the village of Hayscastle, set round a courtyard with 2 other cottages. Welcoming, comfortable and deceptively spacious sleeping 12 in 5 bedrooms, Hayscastle is perfect for a family fishing reunion or a friends gathering! The fitted kitchen with large farmhouse table is ideal for leisurely meals together, while the spacious lounge is a wonderful place to relax. A large lawn and enclosed play area surround the house, where you can enjoy an alfresco meal on a summer’s evening and gives space for children to play.

All family members can enjoy many extra facilities – the farm walk which includes the lakeside and river banks, trout fishing which is available on request, duck ponds, badger setts, calves and outstanding scenery. Although on a working farm, Hayscastle Farmhouse is in a very peaceful location, a good walk along the lanes will take you to the local pub which serves good food and beers.

Tucked away, this rural area abounds in footpaths to explore, yet it is within easy reach of the magnificent beaches along St Brides Bay, the long sandy beach at Newgale is popular for watersports and families can enjoy refreshments at the beach side cafes and pub. Click here for more information.

To round up our catch of the day, our final fishing property is Parc Villa (33383). Set right on the stunning Cleddau estuary in the village of Llangwm, Parc Villa is a beautifully renovated detached cottage. Deceptively spacious it is finished to a high standard and most rooms offer wonderful views over this secret waterway. The lawned garden reaches down to the waters edge and your own slipway allows you to launch kayaks so you can really explore this tidal waterway. Alternatively there are plenty of footpaths for keen walkers – the bird and wildlife will astound and of course perfect for nearby fishing trips.

French doors open to an extensive decked patio, a real sun trap where you can enjoy an alfresco meal while you soak up the water views. Parc Villa is conveniently located to explore this largely unspoilt estuary, with its hidden channels, sleepy villages and quaint pubs nestling along its pretty banks. There is a village pub and popular shop within walking distance in Llangwm itself, or enjoy a meal at the waterside pub, The Jolly Sailor, in the neighbouring village of Burton. There are a range of beautiful beaches to visit all within a short drive.
