As I pulled up outside ‘The Cottage’ in Saundersfoot, on a sunny afternoon I couldn’t wait to take a look around inside. I love finding quirky properties that are in some way characterful or unique, so when I set eyes on this picturesque thatched property I already knew it was going to be a new favourite of mine.
Walking through the large stone porch of the property, I was expecting to step into a very traditional barn-style shabby chic décor. Instead I was greeted with a modern homely feel throughout the property with original features still in place to add charm and character; I was pleasantly surprised at this country chic meets light and contemporary interior!
Throughout the property subtle signs show off features that gesture the property was built in the 1920’s, pretty leaded windows, wooden beams, original tiles and feature fire places giving plenty of character to the property.
Stepping into the living room I could instantly picture a family sitting on the large comfortable sofas playing games, or watching films – the owners have ensured there is a great selection of DVDs and games to entertain all the family! An electic fire sits within the brick featured wall has been preserved and the pretty twinkling fairy lights , glass top coffee table and luxurious throws have been added to create an inviting holiday cottage with a hint of luxury and comfort.
The kitchen is beautifully modern and fully equipped, ideal for preparing family meals to be enjoyed within the spacious dining room which leads off from the kitchen and is perfect to host a party for family or friends. One of my favourite features within the dining area has to be the original tiled fire place. The unusual patterned tiles bring a unique charm to the newly refurbished dining area and really frames the room.
All the bedrooms within the property are a delight. The double ensuite bedroom on the ground floor acquires a cosy beach theme. Stairs lead up to three further bedrooms and a modern bathroom nestling in the thatch. I always find there is something cosy and charming about attic bedrooms. The 3 bedrooms upstairs resemble the same décor of the cosy-cottage-meets-contemporary-chic theme, each have their own signature feature brick walls.
One of my favourite features within the upstairs double bedroom has to be the chaise lounge, perfectly positioned for relaxing facing the bedroom window with its beautiful views. Beautifully decorated, this becomes the focal point of the bedroom and is the perfect spot to relax with your favourite book.
Finally the master bedroom obtains more of a romantic feel. The delightful sea views, a stunning dressing table, the original brick feature wall and fire place pulls together to make a fresh spacious room that marries good modern style with rustic charm.
The Cottage is set in a beautifully laid and enclosed garden with pretty flowers and shrubs that surround the house, during the summer months enjoy dining alfresco either on the paved terrace or in the shelter of the roundavel (a traditional circular African-style dwelling with a conical thatched roof).
From the moment you arrive, you can leave your car behind and enjoy a slower pace to life, with everything on your doorstep. Spend your days on the wonderful beach, try your hand at one of the many water sports on offer, or explore the superb coastline via the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
There is an excellent range of restaurants, pubs and shops to wander set round Saunders foot’s pretty Harbour (The Beachside Barbeque is a must for superb views over Saundersfoot beach and the best milkshakes!). All are just a short walk from The Cottage.
Walk through the tunnels, a relic from Saunders foot’s coal mining history to the neighboring beaches of Coppet Hall and Wiseman’s Bridge. Take in refreshments or a meal at the renowned Coast restaurant or pop into the Wiseman’s Bridge pub right on the beachside. Further on is Amroth, a popular seaside village with cafes and restaurants along its beach front. To the west is the bustling medieval walled town of Tenby with its picturesque harbour and four wonderful sandy beaches.
The great news is The Cottage is available now to take bookings for this Christmas, New year and dates in 2018! A seven night Christmas holiday (from 22nd December 2017) is priced at £1460. Week long holidays start at £830 increasing to £1999 during peak season.
