One of our favourite weeks to get involved with every year as a company is Random Acts of Kindness week! It’s the perfect way to give a little something back to our guests, the community and of course Pembrokeshire. When we started brain storming lots of wild and wonderful idea’s in the office of how we could make a difference this year, we couldn’t quite put our finger on what we felt was missing – It was the ‘little’ things!
Sometimes small random acts of kindness can be overlooked, yet often go the longest way! Simply paying someone a compliment or sending a positive text message can really lift a person’s mood and make there day! We’ve put together 5 different FREE ways that you can get involved with Random Acts of Kindness this week – whether you’re in work or out and about why not try to commit at least one of the following acts of random kindness.
Help us #CaptureKindess this week!
Help someone pack or carry their shopping
It may mean you spending an extra ten minutes in a crowded supermarket for you but helping an elderly person with their shopping will be hugely appreciated. This simple 2 minute job of carrying a few shopping bags back to a car or a bus may be a really difficult task for the elderly! This act will be sure to make there day and will also give you the feel good factor.
Stick positive post it notes around your home or office
Trialed, tested and proven! Today everyone in the office wrote down a positive sticky note and stuck it to someone else’s computer screen. It’s a simple and easy idea that lifted every ones spirits in our office today and reminded us how easy it is to simply be kind! Some of our favourite sticky notes included..
“Today can be magical if you make it so”
“Don’t forget to smile”
“You stand out like a strawberry in a bowl of peas”
“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams”
Whether you’re at home or work, definitely give this one a try! – let us know what positive notes you left for others and how it made you feel!
Send a happy message to five different people
This could be a quick text to five of your colleagues, a snapchat to five best friends, or even a letter to five people that have helped you in the past and you haven’t got round to thanking! Gratitude is the great multiplier! I decided to email my lecturer that really helped me in my final months before graduating from Uni – although it’s been over a year since we’ve spoken, letting him know his efforts really helped to secure the job I love doing today is a simple and quick way to show your appreciation towards them.
Do a beach clean or park clean
You can be kind to the environment too! If you have five minutes to spare next time your walking through the park or across the beach, why not do a mini clean up and put some of the litter you see in the bin. Keep a spare plastic bag ready in your car or handbag ready to do so. Of course there are lots of fantastic beach cleaning events that you can take part in around Pembrokeshire (click here for more information), but there’s still nothing stopping you and a group of friends organising your own little beach or park clean!
We’re taking part in Freshwater West beach clean on Feb 21st 12pm– Come join us, we’d love to see you there!
The easiest and simplest form of kindness. According to an article from Psychology Today, “Each time you smile, you throw a little feel-good party in your brain. The act of smiling activates neural messaging that benefits your health and happiness.” And smiling is contagious! Throw a smile at people in the street and see how many you get back.. you could be the reason for brightening up someone else’s day.
To finish this week’s blog I thought I’d share with you one of my favourite kindness quotes…
‘Unexpected Kindness is the most powerful, least costly and most underrated agent of human change’
What’s yours? We’d love for you to share with us kindness quote’s with us. Keep an eye on our social media to see how were contributing to random acts of kindness week – were on a mission to inspire Random Acts of Kindness around Pembrokeshire..
