I love all things Pembrokeshire and day to day aim to make the most of living in this wild little corner of the world. A passionate foodie, I explore the county based on what places to eat have grabbed my attention!

All Things St Davids

St David’s Day means many things in Pembrokeshire. It means kids dressing up, the girls as traditional Welsh women (or ‘flower pot ladies’ as I used to call them as a child, due to the strange hat. Google it and you’ll see why) and boys with flat caps and tank tops. It means cawl served at every pub, more often than not made by the landlady herself. And it means pinning a leek or a daffodil to your chest, or a more recent phenomenon is wearing a daffodil headpiece so you resemble a sort of Celtic Teletubbies sun. These traditions are […]

Why you’ll love Llanunwas

Nestled at the top of Solva is Llanunwas, a large Georgian house which was once part of a country estate dating back over 400 years standing in glorious isolation on the cliffs in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. In more recent years it has become home to seven individual 5 star apartments and two cottages which provide a perfect base for a Pembrokeshire break, whatever your needs. Only 400 yards from the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast Path, they are ideally placed for walking this stretch of coastline. Follow it round to Caerfai Bay and further on to the tiny Cathedral city […]

Random Acts of Kindness The Coastal Way

We’ve loved getting involved in Random Acts of Kindness Week this week. It’s the perfect excuse to give a bit back to our guests, the community and of course Pembrokeshire. Lots of ideas were batted around, and we finally settled on three ways to show our appreciation. We started with a beach clean on Newgale beach on Tuesday. We set off with our gloves, bin bags and litter pickers feeling enthusiastic and full of the joys of kindness. We arrived, wrapped up, walked to the top of the pebbles and were met with what looked like a perfectly clean expanse […]

Stay in amongst the Tales of Pembrokeshire

Over the last week we’ve been releasing a series of videos featuring storytellers from around the county telling some Tales of Pembrokeshire, to coincide with National Storytelling Week and the start of Visit Wales’ Year of Legends. From a strange haunting at Carew Castle, to medieval pirates of Tenby, the legends surrounding Pembrokeshire help to make up the rich story of the county. When visiting Pembrokeshire, it’s tales provide another layer to your stay if you dig a bit deeper into the surrounding area. You never know what you might discover! Having watched the videos and heard the tales, here […]

Have a Hygge Valentine’s Day

Whenever someone mentions Valentine’s Day, it makes me cower slightly. I imagine a meal in a crowded restaurant with heart shaped everything, sitting across from my boyfriend who is hating every second and being acutely aware of how much more money I’m paying for the Lovers’ Set Menu over the burger that I usually go for. It’s making me break out in a sweat just thinking about it. This year, I’m forgoing the forced fun, the social media battle to see whose boyfriend bought them the biggest teddy bear, the silent struggle not to mention the fact that I saw […]

Pop the question in Pembrokeshire on St Dwynwen’s Day

Asking someone to marry you is wonderful on any day of the year. Think about it, you’re saying that out of however many billion people there are, you’d like them to be the one that sticks around forever. That’s pretty special. But let’s face it, proposing on February 14th, while beautiful, isn’t going to invite anyone’s curiosity. You won’t get colleagues saying ‘Oh, why then? Is it special to you?’ It might be of course, it might be an anniversary or a birthday, or you might just really like heart shaped balloons. However if you’re looking for a proposal that strikes […]

Restaurants in Pembrokeshire with something a little different!

As well as award winning beaches, stunning coast path walks and historic landmarks, Pembrokeshire is also home to some of the best places to eat in the UK. Coastal Cottages is a company full of foodies, and so we often blog about the latest life-changing meal we’ve had that week, from the steak at The Cwtch in St Davids, or the curry at The Royal Oak in Newport. This time I’m focusing on some restaurants in the area that provide that something that’s a bit different, that will make you remember that one place on your holiday that made you […]
