About Barnacle Cottage
Barnacle Cottage is situated 150 yards from the beach at Aberfforest Bay. It is a charming semi-detached stone barn converted from the original cow shed and retains lots of original character with exposed beams, feature stone and whitewashed walls. It is furnished in soft, neutral tones, and blues to reflect the sea and shoreline. The open-plan living space, with vaulted ceiling, has comfortable sofas and a wonderful wood-burning stove for cosying up on chillier evenings. The well-equipped cottage style kitchen has a farmhouse dining table where you can enjoy family meals together. There is a double bedroom and bathroom with P-shaped bath on the ground floor, while 2 sets of steep open-tread stairs lead up to the 2 pretty galleried bedrooms nestling in the eaves, one a twin while the other is a comfortable king-size with cosy curtains screening it from the sitting room below.
The paved enclosed front patio is a real sun trap, sheltered from the wind, and an ideal spot to enjoy an alfresco meal on balmy evenings sitting round the barbecue, after a day spent down at the sandy/shingle cove of Aberfforest, and its neighbour Aber-Rhigian. These are some of the most unspoiled beaches in Pembrokeshire and a favourite haunt of the Cardigan Bay bottle-nosed dolphins and seals. The beach is ideal for kayaking and swimming, and for children to play in the rock pools and where the stream passes out of the woodland and crosses the beach. Just a minutes walk from Barnacle Cottage, nestled in the woods, is a beautiful waterfall, a fabulous place to explore for adults, children and dogs alike.
Join the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, which passes through Aberfforest, and explore this stunning coastline. There are some wonderful walks around Dinas Head, taking in the coves of Pwllgwaelod and Cwm yr Eglwys, or in the opposite direction towards the Parrog at Newport. The coastal villages of Dinas and Newport lie 1.5 miles in opposite directions and offer a selection of shops, pubs and restaurants to choose from, while the estuary and golden sandy beach at Newport are popular both for watersports and with bird and wildlife enthusiasts.

Deciduous ancient woodlands run down tiny valleys to the seas edge and birdwatchers and naturalists delight in the abundance of wildlife. The bay, which can only be approached by the general public over a long footpath, is almost private and has launching facilities available by prior arrangement. The small, sandy beach is perfect for swimming or kayaking and you may sometimes be joined by a seal. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs past Aberfforest; follow this for fantastic scenic walks to Newport beach and Dinas Head. The villages of Dinas and Newport with their shops, pubs and restaurants are under 2 miles, a pleasant walk in good weather. The rugged Preseli hills are a short drive away and the nearby ancient woodlands at Ty Canol are rich in local history and wildlife.

Approached from an A-road, then half a mile of concreted lane, it is rough with numerous potholes, sloping down with 2 sharp bends, opening onto the old concreted farmyard. Space for 2 cars. 3rd parking space available by prior arrangement -parking area is concreted, but uneven in places. External lighting system activated by movement sensors. 3“ rise and a small step up onto uneven slate patio Storm sill under front door 30” wide. Small back drying yard accessed from sitting room down 2 steep steps. Ground floor: kitchen/diner/sitting room, bathroom, double bedroom. Both doors 25” wide. There is a 10 mm step up into the sitting room where there is a wooden edging strip. It has a smooth bevelled edge. The same type of strip is situated in the doorways to the bathroom, downstairs bedroom and rear courtyard. Upstairs: twin gallery bedroom at each end accessed by steep open tread stairs 24” wide. Kitchen has low level oven in free standing cooker. Fridge/freezer has freezer compartment at the bottom. Microwave is inside a cupboard on an upper shelf. Remote controls available. Pets welcome. Access to beach is along an unmade track about 150 yards long. Car access for guests with walking difficulties. Bus service from request stop at the main road between Newport and Fishguard.

A perfect break with lovely spring weather. We walked the coastal path and cycled the Gwaun Valley. Nature was at its very best - the coastal paths were lined with beautiful wild flowers, and we saw goldfinches, red kites and cormorants to name but a few.

1 week stay with extended family, in the perfect location. The cottage is very well equipped and it's location enabled us to do coastal walks every day. We were lucky enough to be able to go on a boat trip and we saw the puffins! Excellent cottage with everything you need and we made use of the patio each night. Thank you for having us!

With so many interesting places and walks nearby, it's impossible to name them all but Poppit Sands and White Sands were amongst our favourites. 'What an amazing week - first time here on this Pembrokeshire coast and we are most impressed. The cottage location is brilliant - we have walked to Dinas Head and also to Newport Sands. Well worth it. Also the walk around Nevern is definitely worth a visit - so full of history and facts. We have had a very relaxed week's break enjoying our walks to the beach as well as some beautiful sandy beaches within very close proximity.
