Penrhyn is a traditional split-level stone cottage, full of character, with Welsh settles and locally made woollen curtains and bedspreads; while the kitchen/breakfast room offers wonderful views out to sea. It is for those seeking peace and quiet - step back in time for a simpler life. Oil lamps and candles add to the atmosphere as there is no electricity. There are books, games, and a piano - bring your own music. Enjoy meals on the patio or lawn whilst taking in the dramatic sea views and spectacular sunsets. Go through the garden gate onto the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path for breathtaking walks, where ponies, seals and porpoises may be seen. Wildlife and flowers abound. Drive slowly down the long, gated, rugged track through National Trust land and you will find a magical location for your holiday.
Extra care needed with young children as stream and steep cliffs nearby.
No electricity precludes higher grade.
No baby equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Access to the cottage is from the Goodwick to Strumble Head road. You would then follow a very rugged track for three quarters of a mile. It goes through a ford and a number of gates which have to be kept closed when livestock are there. On arrival at the cottage, the front entrance consists of two doors at a right angle. Once in the cottage, the sitting room is on two levels with a step down. The bedrooms are down a further step along a narrow corridor and the bathroom and kitchen are down yet two more steps to the ground floor level where the back door is situated. This is accessible on the outside of the cottage from the front door by an uneven path. The garden is terraced and the patio is accessible up a sloping lawn or by steps up. There is no electricity at the cottage. Heating and cooking is by Rayburn, a log burner and an open coal fire. Lighting is by candle and paraffin lamps. Refrigeration and further cooking is by propane gas. The Pemborkeshire coast path runs on the cliff top passing the back of the cottage.
This is my fourth visit to Penrhyn and it is safe to say, it has not lost it's charm! We swam with seals and watched cormorants feeding. The cottage has been so lovely and warm, perfect for snuggling up with a good book. This is a wonderful place to escape the pressures of day to day life. You must visit if you can!
We came, we lived off the grid, and now we are going back into the world! Thank you for sharing Penrhyn with us. It has truly worked it's magic.
Our second visit - we love the view and being right away from the outside world. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for another beautiful stay! We have had a fantastic week, beautiful walks and relaxing in the garden in the day time and cosy fires in the evening.
A beautiful peaceful place to get right away from 'normal' life and recharge the batteries! We saw so much wildlife, including seals and a peregrine. Thank you.
15 - 19 November 2022 - We absolutely love it here and we will be back! The cottage was warm when we arrived, a very comfortable stay and we had lovely walks with fabulous scenery! Thank you so much.
Ending a lovely week by celebrating Lewis turning 15 on our last morning! With a rainbow over the secret cove where we swam with a seal and had a beach shower under a waterfall. My Grandpa was from Tenby, so Pembrokeshire has always been home but I've never been to the North before. We really hope this continues to be a holiday cottage for a long long time as we will come back again and again! Thank you
In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger- we will be back!!! Well sort of his words anyway. What a place this is even setting fire to my hair on the candles above the fire was Fun!!! Thank you very much for a memorable stay. Paul and Laura and Arlo the Dog
What a wonderful retreat! We have all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had we been able to book a longer stay at the time we would , but alas only 3 nights were free. I can now understand why the Children have been immersed in books, games, and piano recitals and have not missed the usual distractions of 21st life. Thank you.
Goodbye to our adored Penrhyn, for another Year. We have had a great week and fantastic weather, Only disappointment was the District lack of wildlife across this year. Thank you for the cakes , wine, flowers etc and for the use of your wonderful unique house . Were Else can you watch fishing boats going out to sea, whilst having your shower? Watch out for the robin - he is acting in a strange way , flying against the living room and bedroom windows - he seems to be requesting food for the two Magpies!
Been coming for many years , but so much better this year . The new windows make such a difference, didn't need a fire all week! Seals and pups everywhere, Dolphins offshore. lots of birds , even a Merlin. Sadly no Otters this year, a wonderful Week, thank you.
As always a lovely holiday here at Penrhyn . Weather mostly good with only 4 days of if any weather (rain /drizzle but always warm.... who cares just being here is enough! which is what we did most of the time .. just stayed here read , talked , walked, eat & drank. Fab holiday Strumble head is an amazing place. We have spotted lots of seals and a couple of dolphins. We have seen lots of birds, the views are amazing. On sunny evenings its great to watch the sun go behind the sea, There is plenty to do such as walking , surfing at Whitesands bay , be warned if you want to bring kayaks it is tricky to launch. Would love to come again . From Alice age 10 Annabel age 13 Mum and Dad Thank you for a lovely holiday, cakes were great, what a lovely surprise!!
Beautiful cottage, log fire, rayburn, candle light, wine and lovely coastal walks. Seals basking on the rocks, what more would anyone want? looking forward to coming back next year. A dog is the only thing that would have improved our holiday here! Goodbye for another year and thank you.
Another fab week in the cottage al a bit very different spending time with good friends, we don't see very often Cerys and I spent lots of time being creative and reading very restful. the cottage kept as safe and sound while the storm blew around us. Here again for our annual pilgrimage with Harry and Nell our Pembrokeshire Corgi's who are totally in love with Penrhyn. The dolphins have been regular visitors just above the bay and when up at 1am for a drink with a fullish moon a huge fox trotted into the garden sniffing his way around. See you next year Penrhyn!
