About The Old Carthouse

The Old Carthouse is a stunning grade II listed stone barn conversion, set in Llawhaden, steeped in medieval history, this hilltop village with its magical 14th century Castle ruins just a few minutes walk from your door. Perfectly positioned to explore all that Pembrokeshire has to offer.

Beautifully converted, this deceptively spacious cottage is ideal for two families or multi-generations to holiday together. Comfortably furnished to a high standard throughout, step into the open-plan living space with large, fitted quality kitchen, well-equipped with its central island, it is a really sociable space and perfect for preparing family meals to enjoy in the conservatory dining room, a spacious sitting room with lovely original arched French doors opening to the front courtyard gives plenty of space to relax, while children and adults alike will make the most of the cosy cwtch, down steps which leads out to the large enclosed garden. Plenty of original features have been retained with high vaulted ceilings, A-frame beams and exposed stone work.

The master bedroom with ensuite on the ground floor is an absolute delight with its wonderful super king sleigh bed and wooden floor, the other bedrooms can be either made up as super kings or twin beds, one is located on the ground floor while stairs lead up to a further two bedrooms nestling in the eaves with their exposed A-frame beams. Set in half an acre of grounds, 4 steps lead out and down to a large paved terrace and a decked area where you can dine alfresco and soak up the super rural views, further steps lead down to a large lawn, prettily planted where children can play.

Conveniently located in this historical rural village, it is a peaceful escape, footpaths, bridleways and country lanes abound, ideal for keen walkers, cyclists and bird and wildlife enthusiasts. A visit to explore the Castle ruins is a must, as well as wandering the ancient woodlands at Canaston, just a 5 minute drive away and from there down to the meandering tributaries of the picturesque Cleddau, with its pretty quaint villages that remain largely unchanged often with waterside pubs where you can enjoy a pint. There is a village pub serving food and local shop in the neighbouring village of Robeston Wathen, just 3 miles away. The market town of Narberth is well worth a visit with its range of boutique and antique shops, restaurants, cafes and delicatessen, it regularly holds events with food festivals and fish week, or enjoy a night out at the Queens Hall.

Nearby is the award winning restaurant at The Grove Hotel, where you can enjoy a celebratory meal or head to the coast just a 25 minute drive away to its sister restaurant, Coast, set overlooking the sea in Saundersfoot. The stunning coastline is not far away, really appreciate its beauty by walking a section of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, the seaside towns and villages of Tenby and Saundersfoot are well worth a stop with their long sandy beaches, pretty harbours; enjoy a fishing trip or a visit to Caldey Island home to the Cistercian Monks. The whole of Pembrokeshire and all it has to offer is within easy reach, so head west to Haverfordwest and onto the beachside villages of Broad Haven and Little Haven or the St Davids peninsula, travel north over the Preseli hills to the rugged coastline of Newport.

There really is something for every one with a host of family attractions including Oakwood Theme Park, Heatherton World of Activities, Manor House Wildlife Park and Folly Farm, as well as a choice of golf courses to try, the closest being Haverfordwest and Heronsbrook.

The Old Carthouse is a wonderful quality holiday home for families and friends to escape to and relax.

Thank you for a lovely stay - spacious and comfortable house. We enjoyed exploring the area. We particularly enjoyed Llawhaden Castle, Manobier Castle and beach, walking to Barafundle Bay and Amroth beach. The walk from Amorth beach to Wisemans Bridge was good for small children and at low tide you can walk back along the beach.
