About Ty Isaf

Ty Isaf is a traditional stone cottage, delightfully renovated and deceptively spacious, set in the village of Mathry, just 2 miles from the fishing village of Abercastle and the sea. Its elevated position gives this cottage sweeping rural views across Pembrokeshire to the Preseli Hills from nearly every room.

The enclosed, lawn garden to the front is a wonderful spot to enjoy an alfresco meal while you admire the breathtaking outlook. Step into the spacious tiled hall with sweeping staircase. The cottage has been beautifully furnished in a stylish mix of contemporary and antique pieces, the large lounge with wooden floor and comfortable sofas has a wood burning stove for chillier evenings, while the kitchen/diner with modern, fitted kitchen area and a farmhouse table has a pot bellied stove to keep you cosy. Two of the double bedrooms are surprisingly spacious with exposed A frame beams and lovely views, the master has a wooden step ladder leading to a galleried crog loft bed in the eaves.

There is a popular village pub in Mathry within walking distance, as well as a Church and delightful village green. The Siop Fach Tearoom and Collectables is where you can enjoy breakfast, light lunch or afternoon tea and also browse the many collectables; china and glassware, jewellery and souvenirs; Beswick, Masons, Shelley, Wades, Britains. Mathy is the perfect base from which to join the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and explore this part of the Pembrokeshire coast, the picturesque fishing village of Abercastle is only a 2 mile walk away, while further afield lies the delightful beaches of Abermawr and Aberbach or in the opposite direction is the village of Trefin with its local pub and cafe leading down to the stone mill and beach of Aberferlin. Use the Puffin Shuttle bus and leave the car behind.

This cottage is sure to delight and is the perfect holiday base.

The crog loft is available upon request at time of booking.

The property is approached from an A-road and then approximately a quarter of a mile up a narrow country lane. The house is accessed directly from the lane onto the level concrete parking space which has a two-bar fence to one side and a concrete out-building to the other giving limited width access. The entrance door is reached by a level concrete path. In the entrance porch there is a step up to the hall. The, mainly flat, lawned garden extends to a third of an acre and contains wooden garden table with fixed seats. The property has two storeys accessed via a set of stairs with approximately 8 steps to the first landing and bathroom and approximately 6 steps to the 2nd landing and bedrooms. Ground floor facilities include a large tiled hall, lounge and kitchen/dining room. Behind the cellar/utility door, located in the hallway, there are two immediate steps down, which leads to the 2nd cloakroom/whb/wc. The kitchen has a long run of work tops and a low level grill and oven. Public transport (limited local bus service) approximately 100 yards (90 metres) to sheltered bus stop.

Absolutely fabulous house- more like a home than a holiday let. Loved everything about it - great shower, comfy bed and space. Food at the farmers arms was lovely. If you ever want too sell - let us know i'm sure our family would be more than interested :) :) Can't wait to return

We came for Christmas and what a welcome! We had a christmas tree, lovely wine and the house looked fantastic. We got stuck into life in Mathry - a drinks contest in the Farmers Arms and NYE in the village hall. We loved it and the cottage - a fabulous place to come home to after long walks on the beach.

McGuinness Family

Had a wonderful week and did some lovely coastal walks. House very cosy, the log burner was brilliant and the house in an amazing location. Went to eat at the farmers arms - received a warm welcome, very nice food (and nice pool table too) Great half term holiday

The Shepherd family

We took the kids to Ty Isaf (2 boys) and had an awesome few days. The house is huge and really tastefully put together with a pub next door (always handy)! Minutes away from White Sands, St David's and Abereiddy (the Blue Lagoon), there's so many beautiful places to visit nearby. Equally you could just chill round the house or in the garden as both are big enough to get some space and enjoy the views. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The Davies Family

What a super time we had at your lovely bolthole! The place felt relaxing and homely - just right for a break with a whole array of age ranges! We sampled Farmers Arms fare - delicious Sunday dinner. We went for long walks - would recommend the bluebell woods walk to Abermawr. St David's was well worth the visit - visited the Cathedral and gallery at the information centre - lovely cafe there as well - with Lobster as the special on the day we visited. Travelled all around Broard Haven, the Marloes, Dale went to Pendine. Travelled up to Cardigan - Castell Henllys and Pentre Ifan well worth the stop off on the way. Your place was so peaceful and we slept very well - Thanks for the home from home. x

Posnet Family

What a beautiful cottage! We were so pleased that we chose to come here. it was just what we needed. Grannie says she loved her pretty room! We have really enjoyed exploring the area. Pembrokeshire is new to us all apart from Grannie and we have fallen in love with the area, we particularly enjoyed our 'Voyages of Discovery' boat trip around Ramsey island - Shearwater trip. We visited Dyffryn - Fernant garden near Fishguard which was a wonderful hidden gem of a place so peaceful and relaxing. The meal at 'Cwtch' was lovely and bits from the deli opposite too (spicey pasta salad yummy). Too much to mention. Thank you so much.

The Jones Family

You've put a huge amount of thought and creatvity into assembling all the varied elements that go into making Ty Isaf. Its such a distinctive home and maybe that's something that marks it out - it feels like a home. We're old hands in mid Pembrokeshire as tourists but this was the first stay in Mathry. What great views over to Letterston and the hills beyond. Had three generations staying here and all enjoyed their time. Also entertained two separate families to evening meals - great times. Hope all goes well for you and Ty Isaf in the future.

The Davies Family

We had a lovely week of sunshine with plenty of trips out, Abereiddy beach is a favourite. The Farmers Arms is a very nice pub with good food, suitable for families. The kids really enjoyed their "fighting and farming" experience at Castell Henllys near Newport. Lovely views relaxing and we enjoyed the log burner. The kids appreciated the toys to play with in the garden and loved the rope swing. I am sure we will be back.
