About Ty Olwen

Lie in bed and look straight out to the sea at Abercastle Bay. This cosy stone holiday cottage has sea views from all rooms and nestles on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path in the picturesque fishing village of Abercastle.

Renovated throughout to provide quality accommodation, the useful porch leads through to the open-plan living space with under floor heating, has a newly fitted kitchen and comfortable seating to relax, French doors open to small patio, a delightful spot to the side of the cottage where you can sit and relax with a coffee or a glass of wine on a summer’s evening, soaking up the sea views, the sunsets are fantastic and can be enjoyed also from the sitting room and cliff top garden or spend your evenings star gazing, the dark skies will amaze.

Stairs from the sitting room lead up to the bedrooms, both with views over the beach and out to sea and also the new shower room. Enjoy watching the fisherman land their catch, while the rock pools on Abercastle's shingle beach will entertain families for hours, pet owners will love the easy access to the beach to walk all year round.

Wild and bird life enthusiasts will be mesmerised by the seabirds in Abercastle Bay, or you might even catch sight of a visiting seal or head further afield to taking a boat trip to Skomer, Skokholm and Ramsey islands, which are very accessible, (don't forget your binoculars).

The sheltered inlet is perfect for kayakers and for the more adventurous, try your hand at Coasteering. Keen walkers can access the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Coastal Path from Ty Olwen's front door or use the local Strumble Shuttle bus to access other nearby coastal villages and walk along the Coast Path back to your cottage.

Abermawr and Aberbach are well worth a visit or Aberfelin below the village of Trefin, only 2 miles away with its local pub, The Ship Inn and cafe/gallery. In the neighbouring village of Mathry is a good pub serving food, as well as tea room to try. A little further away lies Porthgain with its popular Sloop Inn and art galleries to explore. The dark sand and shingle beach at Abereiddy and the famous Blue Lagoon should not be missed. The tiny City of St Davids with its majestic Cathedral and Bishops Palace is within easy reach, and offers a range of facilities to wander and the glorious sandy Whitesands Beach popular with surfers and families lies on its outskirts.

Ty Olwen is a wonderful holiday cottage in a great location for exploring the St Davids Peninsula and the many delights of North Pembrokeshire.

The secret garden is currently unavailable.

November 2023 - Very well equipped and renovated. Loved the closeness to the sea and views. The interior design and layout could not be more perfect. Kitchen expectational. Allowing dogs was a great catch too!

October 2023 - Ready for a well-earned break, we approached Abercastle down a country lane and wow!! Blessed with sunshine, we were amazed. I can not over emphasise how lovely the location of Ty Olwen Cottage is. I had pre ordered the Welsh cheese selection.....divine!!! We found Prosecco, milk and treats for the dog! Very happy!! The cottage was immaculately clean with everything you require. Beautifully appointed and well considered. Views are incredible and a step out of the door with the dog to swim in the bay most days. Coastal walks from the cottage to Abermawr, to the East of the cottage. A larger surf beach where we sat admiring seals and collected our sloe berries! To Trefin, to the west of the cottage, an amazing stretch of coastline before heading off the path to the village and the Ship Inn. Porthgain is a short drive away and a fabulous coastal / circular walk past the Blue Lagoon to Aberiddy, then back to Porthgain to the Sloop Inn. The Woollen Mill and cafe at Abermawr is well worth a visit. Fishguard and St. Davids are short drives away. A huge thank you to the owners.

We had a fabulous time mainly because of your fabulous cottage!

Anonymous

October 2022 - We have stayed before and loved it, especially the sea views. Comfortable beds and seating, mirrors have enhanced the views, and private parking is a big benefit.

Anonymous

September 2022 - I had the best stay one can imagine in this cozy cottage with its elegant interior design. It’s perfectly located in a tiny village at a beautiful bay which you can see from the living room. That view is only surpassed by the one you have upstairs: I spent almost an hour every morning drinking my coffee in bed, just watching the sea. It seems (and is) very remote, yet there are so many stunning places within a 15 to 40 min drive range (like St. Davids with its ancient cathedral and lovely ruins or Fishguard and plenty of other coastal cities and fisherman villages). What my husband and I loved most though is the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path that runs right through Abercastle, therefore it's like 1 minute walk away from the door. Definitely a place to come back to.

Anonymous

September 2022 - We have stayed in Ty Olwen many times before. The bay and the view brought us back and we were also keen to see all the changes. The latest reviews were right - this cottage is beautifully renovated and comfortable. We loved all the renovations! The underfloor heating was a real asset this week. Bathroom is lovely! Great Bed! The owners have really brought this cottage up to date in a stylish, modern way, while keeping the character.

Anonymous

August 2022 - We chose Ty Olwen due to the proximity to the sea and the coastal path. It is a fantastic house, we really enjoyed our stay. Clean and modern furnishings and design. Amazing views! We really loved our week here! Thank you!

Anonymous

August 2022 - We have stayed in Abercastle many times so the views and parking at Ty Olwen were the main draw. Since we booked, the place has had a complete renovation and it is lovely! We will defo come back here! We loved how clean, fresh and well looked after it was. Parking is great - but that view - beautiful!

Anonymous

August 2022 - We would recommend this beautiful cottage to all our friends. We had the best week with our family here, thank you! It is decorated to a high standard, with everything you could need for a home from home. Abercastle is just amazing and we loved swimming in the sea! The views from the bedroom and living room are just spectacular!

Anonymous

August 2022 - Can’t fault this place! Cottage was clean, colourful and comfortable, well equipped kitchen, the main bedroom had amazing views over the water. Great outdoor space to sit with a cold beer and watch the ever changing sunsets. Highly recommend this cottage. Just had the best time and will be back next year…

June 2022 – We have stayed here before in 2020 and loved it! This time it met our expectations and more!! We love the views and the location. You have given the place an amazing makeover! It was a pleasure to live in and very well equipped. The huge TV was great for Glastonbury on a wet Sunday! The mirrors reflecting the sea views are inspired, love the artwork too! It is a wonderful place.

Anonymous

July 2022 – We last stayed here in 2016, we came back for the views and the parking. The recent refurbishment has been very well done. Thank you!

Anonymous

July 2022 – Sensational location, it looked lovely on the internet, but it seems to have been refurbished since we booked so, it was even nicer than we were expecting. We walked in and were stunned. Honestly, it was beautifully presented, and we were stunned at its loveliness. Ty Olwen was clean, well presented, beautifully decorated and the equipment and facilities are top notch. No expense seems to have been spared! It was sensational, we will book again next time we are back from Singapore. Thank you!!!

June 2022 - We have been staying in this cottage for many years. It has been great to experience the many improvements you have made. We choose this cottage for the views. Your lovely new mirrors have definitely greatly enhanced the experience plus the cottage feels so much bigger and lighter. The renovations have more than met our expectations. The pictures on the web site are good but I believe you have to stay in the place to truly know what it is really like. There is so much that we like: where the dining table is now situated, the new kitchen (even space for a dishwasher!), the tv, the new shower room, the interesting art work, the relaxing bedrooms, the new carpet, the plants, the new external colour which incidentally seems to make the cottage look more imposing when viewed from the coastal path, and the easy to access washing line!

Anonymous

June 2022 - We loved the proximity to the coastal path and kayak launching! As well as the location we liked the kitchen equipment, decor, parking, TV, washing line and binoculars!

Anonymous

June 2022 - Ty Olwen was our choice as we wanted to stay in Abercastle, and overlook the sea. We could sit and see the boats from the cottage. A very quiet, beautiful place with lots of walks along the coast. The cottage was very clean and newly decorated, everything was excellent. A really lovely place to stay, would recommend.

Anonymous

May 2022 - We have regularly stayed in Ty Olwen for about 20 years, the situation is perfect and the cottage is very comfortable. The new layout and upgrade has been very well done. The kitchen layout and bathroom changes are well thought through and both are very convenient. The television blew our minds! The bed was so comfortable, best night's sleep ever :) All being well, we hope to return next year!

Our 9th visit to Ty Olwen and was another fabulous stay. The weather was fab for most of the week, which meant plenty of walking. As ever, the St Justinians - Porth Clais stretch was magnificent. We came the same week last year - flowers definitely a bit later in 2018! We'll be back.

Christine and Alex France

Had a lovely few days and would like to come again. We thought the cottage was very cosy and comfortable. Stayed in many cottages in this area and this one is highly recommended!

Hoerty Family

what a lovely place to spend a week, the boys have had so much fun making dams on the beach and throwing stones in the sea. We loved exploring all the local beaches, a small cove just outside Trefin was a favourite with a cave. Whitesands busy but lovely too. Two very sad boys in the car now waiting to go home, we'll miss our little cottage by the sea!

Bidmead Family

Abercastle is a great place from which to explore Pembrokeshire. Ty Olwen has lovely views of the bay. Highlights for us were, Whitesands, a trip to Ramsey Island.

Harrod Family

We are sitting enjoying our last glass of red wine on your bench while the sun shines down on us - 7.20pm - beautiful. Our 11 year old is on the beach - again!!- looking for any crabs she can find. On arriving we walked south on the headland and saw a pair of peregrines- wonderful! Our 13 year old nearly managed to give up her I pod- nearly! Thank you for no Wifi!! We are sorry we have to leave

Mark, Tessa & Jacob

First time in Abercastle, wont be the last. Cottage perfect and very friendly people - 29 Degrees, why go abroad. We visited a beach to the right of whitesands, 15 min walk along cliff Top. Really good with caves full of water

Pete and Nill

Lovely week with great weather encouraging us to do lots of favourite coastal walks. We used the bus back from Porthgain ( lovely Crab sandwiches at the Sloop Inn) and to Strumble head. The rain started on our walk back from Strumble head and continued on and off. On Friday morning we visited Gwuan Valley Brewery, Narberth and Solva. A beautiful sunset for our last evening following a sunny afternoon

Mary & Allan Marks

Sarah and Norman - you made the best choice of holiday ever! We are probably in our 14th/15th years of Abercastle and it doesn't get any better than this last week. So hot and sunny - marvellous. The Robin expected to have titbits every time he saw us sitting on the chair. Here's to the next break

Sarah and Norman

Fifth time in Ty Olwen and couldn't wait to get back here. It's been a marvellous week- perfect weather for walking and watching the tide. It just keeps on going out and coming back in again! Have seen plenty of seals and sea birds around the coast, and as always have marvelled at the fantastic flowers. Its so good to be able to walk without having driven- and the buses are still running! Where has the week gone? Its all over so soon, havent even eaten out anywhere. Who would want to miss the sun setting over the cove? Have a marvellous time whoever is here next! Thanks for everything once again

Shannon & Alex

Our first visit here. We joined friends who have stayed in the cottage twice before. Beautiful weather, walks and sights that I will revisit in memory as I heard back up north. A wonderful holiday
