About Ty Top

Ty Top is a delightful, quaint, end of terrace stone cottage (one of four) set on an ancient track beneath Carn Ingli (the hill of the angels) mountain above the village of Newport. Deceptively spacious, it has been renovated to a very high standard and will not cease to delight, retaining its character with exposed stone work and beams, yet furnished in a beautiful contemporary style. Narrow stairs lead to the first floor lounge with wood burning stove and comfy sofas for cosying up on chillier evenings while the unique window seat in the eaves gives the most breathtaking views out over Newport town, the golden sands of the beach and out to sea, you will not want to move from the window seat where you can relax and soak up the view. On the ground floor, the modern fitted kitchen leads into a spacious dining area where you can enjoy family meals, doors fold back opening the whole of the dining room up onto a decked area and enclosed, lawned garden, ideal for an alfresco meal or summer barbecue while you admire the sea view.

The shops, pubs, restaurants and galleries in the popular coastal town of Newport are only half a mile away with the beautiful Newport Sands beach a little further on. Join the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and explore the beautiful coves and beaches that abound or take one of the many footpaths and walk up Carn Ingli, the views over this dramatic coastline are stunning.

A wonderful holiday cottage for couples and families who will just want to return again and again.

The cottage is approached from an A-road. There is a narrow lane up hill, past a street. The property is approached by a very sharp right, into single track lane. The turning is very sharp and up a bank. If you don’t feel you can make it, do it in stages or drive a little further up the road, find a convenient place to turn, and approach in other direction going downhill. Follow single lane track for about 400 yards. The parking space, ample for 1 car, is just above the house. Best to do a 2/3 point turn to get in to it so you don’t hit the rock to the right hand side. Space is level and covered in stone chippings. From parking space a few yards down tarmac track to front gate, then level paved path to door to small porch. 1 step up into house from porch. Very low beam, mind your head. Narrow hallway leads to double and twin bedrooms on the same level. Main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with door opening inwards directly onto 2 steps down into bathroom. Further shower room accessed from hall opposite twin bedroom via door also opening inwards directly onto 2 steps down. Low beams at entrance to both bathrooms. From hallway, 2 steps down to another small hall area, then 2 further steps down to large light kitchen, with dining and seating area. Kitchen has extensive cupboards and work surface and eye level oven. Large bifold doors from kitchen/diner onto wooden deck patio and compact lawned garden, slightly sloping. Paved second patio to side of house. Side access to back of house (bifold doors) via paved path, 3 steps down. Hose in garden for washing down sandy equipment/dogs. Lounge upstairs, 11 steps, rope handrail. Lots of low beams so need to be careful. Only centre of the room is full height. TV and some audio visual equipment are operated by remote control. Kitchen and lounge are open plan to rest of house - no doors to lounge or kitchen. Footpath to the village – 10 minutes downhill, rocky path, 15 up hill. External lights- need to switch on before going out at night.

Lin and Stephen

Our second stay at Ty Top. A lovely cottage in a lovely village. Ate at the Castle Inn and Golden Lion (both recommended!) and takeaway pizza from The Canteen. We really recommend the ice cream from Café Mawr by the beach. The coastal walk between Abercastle and Abermawr was especially lovely.

We did circular walks for 3 miles from the pub at the bottom of Dinas Head and pub at Nevern, don’t miss the Pilgrims Cross and the Bleeding Yew in Churchyard. To walk into Newport, try the path to the right of Penrallt Farm at the end of our lane (stout shoes needed!) then downhill to Market Street via local bakery. After a walk on Newport Sands walk up to Cat Rock Café (part of the golf club) open to all, even dogs, lovely drinks and food with awesome views over the bay (owned by Gold Lion, Newport). Bluestone Brewery worth a trip only 2 miles down the road. Thanks once again, hope to come back to this cottage again.
