Beaches near Willowcot Cottage

Little Haven
Little Haven is a picturesque old fishing village with steep streets that descend to a sandy beach with a slipway for small boats, including the local inshore rescue boat. The beach itself is popular with swimmers, divers and kayaks in the summer months. At low tide you can walk along the beach to Broad Haven, passing Settlands on the way, there are numerous caves and rock pools to explore however Settlands is only accessible at low tide so be careful not to get cut off here.
Broad Haven
Broad Haven (west) is a large, magnificent area of sand, which runs the entire length of Broad Haven Village and is a regular Blue Flag award winner. It is a favourite with both bathers and water sports enthusiasts and is ideally facilitated with pubs, shops, restaurant, cafe etc.
Broad Haven's westerly facing sands offer excellent conditions for kite-surfing, kite-buggying, walking and sandcastle building.
It’s not hard to see why this beach is one of the most popular windsurfing beaches in this area and home to Haven Sports water sports shop. There is a car park at the southern end of the beach opposite Haven Sports and a larger car park a small distance from the beach at the North End of the bay.

St Brides Haven is a shingle cove with sand exposed at low tide. It is excellent for swimming, bathing, snorkelling and diving. There are plenty of rock pools to explore making it great fun for families.
St Ishmaels
A large expanse of subtly coloured sand is revealed at this estuary when the tide retreats. Suitable for bathing, although swift currents do arise at some stages of the tide. There are many rock pools for youngsters to explore as well as the stream and stepping stones on the western side - care needed when tide is coming in. There is a free car park on the grass which is adjacent to the footpath.
This lovely and secluded beach is also open to dogs all year around.
St Ishmaels
Lindsway Bay is a sandy cove situated less than 1 mile from St Ishmaels. It is a lovely bathing spot for families, along with being popular with surfers. The nearest parking is in St Ishmaels village by the sports field. From here take the footpath along the west side of the field to the coast path, follow the coast path for approx 200 yards eastwards. Access to the beach is then down a steep zig-zag path with stone and concrete steps. At the bottom it is a short walk over the sandstone boulders to reach the sand. Once you get to the sand, you'll know it was worth the little stroll!
Broad Haven
Druidstone Haven can be found by following the winding coastal road between Nolton Haven and Broad Haven. It is a well hidden, long and sandy beach, enclosed on three sides by spectacular cliffs. Access to the beach is by two fairly steep footpaths. There are no amenities on the beach, but the nearby Druidstone Hotel has a good menu and a lovely outdoor seating area, providing the most glorious views of the beach and as far out to sea as the eye can see.
There is only limited parking on the side of the coastal road, but it is also possible to stop here on the Puffin Shuttle Bus.
Dale
The sheltered bay of Dale is perfect for watersports - home to sailing, windsurfing and a watersports centre. Dale has a mostly shingle beach with some sand at low tide and an attractive seafront. Car parking is plentiful in the purpose built car park just across the road from the beach.
West Dale is a stunning, secluded cove enclosed by towering cliffs and accessed only via steps from the Coastal Path - either by footpath through Dale or by parking on the roadside (very limited). At low tide, this tranquil little spot of sand makes the perfect spot for a bit of sunbathing and relaxing.
This is where King Henry VII, born at Pembroke Castle, landed his army on the way to the battle of Bosworth. West Dale is very popular with surfers, at its best between low and mid tide - although its not for the inexperienced surfer and make sure you know where the rocks are!
West Dale beach is open to dogs all year around!
Marloes
Marloes Sands is a beautiful, isolated stretch of sand with rocky outcrops that are perfect for scrambling over. It is rarely busy and out of season you are likely to have it all to yourself! From the beach there are good views out to Skokholm and Gateholm Islands, the latter of which is at the North-West end of the beach and can be reached on foot at low tide. The remains of medieval settlements can be found on the island.
Surfing at Marloes Sands is usually excellent, but remember, there is a 1km walk to the beach from the car park.
Note: Keep an eye on the rising tide as it can cover the whole beach fairly quickly.
The cove of Nolton Haven is a small inlet of pebbles and sand. At low tide it's revealed to be a long and narrow beach, perfectly suited to sunbathers, as it has the added advantage of being sheltered by high cliffs on either side. With the car park behind the beach, Nolton Haven is a good starting point for excellent cliff-top walks along parts of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, finished off with lunch in the Mariners Arms!

Milford Haven
The Museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Milford Haven. The Museum collection reflects all of these aspects of the town's history, but focuses particularly on the maritime history. The Museum is a voluntarily run museum.
Pembrokeshire Motor Museum has over forty motor cars on display, from veteran cars to classic cars. For each car on display, you can see a complete history. All cars are in excellent condition and are occasionally used by their owners for vintage car rallies etc. so please bear in mind that cars may not always be on display. The Motor Museum is also home to a licensed bar, a magazine and video lounge where you can read and watch all about motoring.
Originally constructed in the 12th Century as a fortress made from timber, and has seen visits from a number of famous names including Oliver Cromwell and King Richard II. The castle was later reconstructed in stone, and was often used to house prisoners before being replaced by a new prison building inside the castle grounds in the 19th Century. This building is now home to the Pembrokeshire Records Office. Not much remains of the stone castle other than the stone wall which grandly looks upon the small town below it. A must-visit is the Town Museum, located in the Old Prison Governor's House. With artefacts, prints, paintings and models, this museum tells the history of the castle and the surrounding town.
Solva Woollen Mill is the oldest working woollen mill in Pembrokeshire and is now the only mill in Wales specialising in flat woven carpets, rugs and runners. Its a family business but visitors are welcome to the mill to wander through the weaving sheds, chat to the weavers as they are warping, splitting yarn or weaving. There is a mill shop housed carding engines and spinning mules and a tearoom which is located in the old dye shed, selling tea, coffee and homemade cakes.

The birthplace of Saint David, this Chapel was built in 1934 on the site of the original house where Non had lived. The Chapel and its accompanying Holy Well were built in dedication to Saint Non, and have since become popular destinations for pilgrimages. Legend has it that springs appeared at each of the significant milestones of Saint David's life, and many believe this Holy Well appeared during his birth and holds many special healing powers.
A popular destination for pilgrimages, this Cathedral is a huge attraction for those interested in Welsh history and/or religion. St. David's Cathedral as we know it today replaced a monastery which was originally founded on the site by Saint David around 589 AD. Not only is it named after our Patron Saint of Wales, but it also contains a shrine to him. The Cathedral still operates a traditional communion service and also holds various special events such as the annual Cathedral Festival. Please note: Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
Located next to the Cathedral, this Bishop's Palace was originally built and established as a monastery in the 6th Century by Saint David. Most of the structure for this building remains however the Palace is now without a roof. Please note: Dogs must be kept on leads at all times.
Built in the 13th Century, this castle is half fortified manor house and half fully developed medieval castle surrounded by forty acres of land and gardens. "Fantastic cottage, with a warm welcome from the owners (and neighbours!). Very cosy for 2 adults and a 12-year old. Nice secluded garden with private lawn & BBQ area. Relaxed immediately didn't want to leave.

Lesley and Peter, Ipswich

An ideal location to unwind and "take it easy." Willowcot is a real home from home! We particularly enjoyed the walks along the coastal path. We will have no hesitation in recommending Willowcot to our friends and family!

Eva and John - Frankfurt, Germany

We arrived to a warm welcome, plus milk to make a nice cup of tea (even towels were kindly provided). The superb weather during the week meant that we visited lots of beaches - all of them wonderful. In the evening, sitting in the garden we felt we had found our own little Eden. Inside all was very cosy and relaxing, while at the same time, clean, efficient and functional. We were happy to have found this lovely cottage and will always remember its sense of peace and beauty.

Eve, Eastleigh, Hants

I have been in many self-catering houses and found Willowcot a pleasant surprise. I liked the atmosphere, immediately restful and relaxing. There was plenty of room for us and the kitchen was adequate for our needs. There is plenty to do to suit all tastes. I shall tell my freinds about Willowcot!

Bernard and Joanna, Dorset

Our 44th year coming to Pembrokeshire - often twice a year - and it never palls. We have so much enjoyed your gracious interior here - we much appreciate all the detailed thought and care - first aid, notepad and pencil, local magazines, even a bottle of milk waiting! Thank you.

Approached from narrow country lanes heading up from Little Haven, Willowcot Cottage is located at the rear side of Willowcot, as the main house and cottage face in opposite directions, with the guest’s walkway being only used by the cottage.

Willowcot Cottage is accessed through a small wooden gate, the catch to which is at waist height on the outside (road-side). The car park area is just off the road by this wooden fence, and is gravelled.

Gravelled path for approximately 20 metres to main entrance.

Main entrance is accessed by a small slate step approximately 5ins high, and over two foot wide, then an approximately 4ins step to inside the sun room. Once in sun room, there is a 4ins small slate step and then 3ins to threshold. Inside cottage is all on one level from there on, with smooth hard floors.

Guests are usually met by owner within 2 hours of arrival (unless guests arrive at night or if the owners are away on holiday). Should guests wish to have help in with luggage - arrangements can be made in advance.

Garden areas lie to the west of the sunroom; there is a small lawned garden with some stepping stone flags, and on the same level a paved guests patio within the walled
garden, with garden furniture. On one side of this patio is an approximately 3ins drop to a 1 metre wide concrete path under the cottage window.

Willowcot Cottage is all on one floor, with lounge, double room, kitchen and shower room/whb/wc. All doors are standard width 800mm.

Kitchen has worktops to 3 sides, with low level oven. There is a low level fridge/freezer in the property also.

Lounge is well lit with 4 floor/table lamps and natural light from the sunroom.

The double room is well lit with 4 floor/table lamps and natural light from windows to 2 aspects.

Shower room is well lit with main centre lighting, additional illuminating mirror and also a
sun-tunnel roof light to roof.

Kitchen is well lit with 2 halogen spotlights and also a velux for natural lighting.

Sun Room is very well lit (being fully glazed) is very warm and also has extra lighting and radiator (from central heating) for in winter.

TV and other entertainment equipment have remote controls.

External lighting is provided by large outside lamp to corner of garden outside wall - switch is inside the cottage in the lounge behind the door curtain. Extra outside lighting can be made available on request by lights to the guest's walkway operated from the main house.

Guide Dogs welcome.
