If you’re a larger group or family looking for somewhere you can all stay together, why not consider The Grove at Llansteffan? The Grove is what we here at Coastal Cottages like to call a cluster property; that simply means it is a collection of cottages all set within one location, making for a handy option when you’re gathering all your near and dear ones for a group holiday.
The Grove is a cluster of 3 properties located in the idyllic West Wales location of Llansteffan, a historical town situated on the edge of the River Towy. Ferryside can be seen across the water, whilst the county town of Carmarthen is just 8 miles away with its amenities including high street shops, a local producer’s market, cinema, theatre, supermarket and places to eat. You also have Laugharne, the hometown of Dylan Thomas just a short drive away. Travel slightly further and you’ll reach the popular seaside resorts of Amroth, Saundersfoot and Tenby in South Pembrokeshire.
View from Grove Cottage
The heart of Llansteffan town is within walking distance of The Grove; here you will find two countryside pubs, a village shop, post office and a café. Llansteffan has its own beach, although technically it is a tidal estuary so take care when bathing. It must be noted that a section of the beach implements a dog ban between May and September so make sure to stick to the dog friendly parts of the beach if you’re visiting with your four legged friend during the summer. In days gone by you would find members of the local community regularly searching for cockles for their supper.
A must-do when in the area is a visit to Llansteffan Castle. Standing proud on the headland overlooking the beach, you will now find the ruined castle of Llansteffan. The ruined walls you’ll see before you today date back as far as the 12th Century, originally built by the Normans, however the site was once home to an Iron Age fort in around 600BC – earthworks remains can be seen as you enter the castle. Over the years, the castle has been held by Normans and the Welsh with many a battle over its ownership yet certain parts of the castle have remained impressively intact including the twin-towered gatehouse.
