Four Great Places to Spend Mother’s Day in Pembrokeshire

Celebrate everything your mum does for you by spending the day together

Woman and son at the beach

Mother’s Day is an important date in the diary for most, as it’s a great opportunity to show your mum just how much you appreciate everything she does. This year that date is Sunday 10th March 2024. If you are staying in one of our Pembrokeshire holiday cottages this Mother’s Day, why not swap out the traditional gift ideas in favour of some quality time together?

Give the gift of a thoughtful experience you can do together instead and you’ll both take away memories to last a lifetime. Here are five fantastic places to spend Mother’s Day in Pembrokeshire this year.

Mothers Day Breaks

Mothers Day is a special day, so treat your mum with the perfect Mothers Day Break; a short break away from it all in a cosy cottage on the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast.

Mother’s Day at National Botanic Garden of Wales

The National Botanic Garden of Wales near Carmarthen is spread across 560 acres of Welsh land and has over 8000 plant types to see. It is known for hosting fantastic events all year round including Antiques Fairs, Photography Courses and Doggy Days to name a few. Make sure to keep an eye on their online events calendar each year if you’re ever in need of an idea for a family day out.

This Mother’s Day at the National Botanic Garden, you can enjoy a fabulous lunch or afternoon tea with your mum. Stroll the serene and scenic grounds of the Gardens before stopping off for lunch at the Cafe Botanica, where you can choose from lovely hot menu of cawl, roast beef and more or opt for sandwiches if you'd prefer something a little lighter. Lunch is served from 12:00 until 14:30 and you do not need to book in advance.

Alternatively, you can pamper your mum with afternoon tea in either the Cafe Botanica or the Med Cafe in The Great Glasshouse. Served between 10:00 and 15:30, you are not required to pre-book allowing you to choose on the day. This sweet tea includes a scone with jam and cream, a bite-sized chocolate eclair, a heart-shaped Welsh cake and macaroon with tea or coffee.

You can also visit The British Bird of Prey Centre here to see a range of birds including Barn Owls, Golden Eagles, Merlin Falcons, White-Tailed Sea Eagles and Honey Buzzards. See flying displays or learn about the important conservation work this centre does to help reintroduce select birds which are low in numbers.

Dine and Drink at The Cove, Tenby

Book a table at The Cove in Tenby for a stylish yet relaxing Mother’s Day celebration this year. A contemporary bar nestled on one of Tenby’s cobbled streets just minutes from the charming bustling harbour, The Cove is the place to go for mouth-watering food and sophisticated drinks. If you’re staying in or around Tenby this Mother’s Day, calling in is a must.

On Mother’s Day itself, you can book a table for Sunday Lunch. Whether it's just you and your mum or a larger group, you can tuck into their incredible sharing plates or even order a roast platter – either way you’re sure not to be disappointed. Pair your meal with a great bottle of wine or spoil yourselves with a bottle of bubbly!

A visit to Tenby’s The Cove is not complete without a cocktail. One visit to their Instagram page and you’ll be wanting to book a table immediately. Order a classic martini, a refreshing mojito or a fruity concoction and raise a glass to honour your mum. You can even arrange a Cocktail Masterclass for groups of 6+.

Mother's Day Afternoon Tea Sunday at Picton Castle

Hidden in the wooded area of The Rhos on the outskirts of Haverfordwest, you will find a magnificent 13th Century Castle and stunning 40-acre grounds at Picton Castle. A recommended day out for any season, a visit to this remarkable stately home on Mother’s Day might even make your mum feel like royalty this year.

With a history dating back around 800 years, Picton Castle is ideal for a more restful Mother’s Day celebration. Enjoy a scrumptious afternoon tea at Maria’s Courtyard Restaurant, tickets are limited so booking in advance is highly recommended.

Tickets to the Mother's Day Afternoon Tea event includes entry to the wonderful gardens where you can stroll through the Walled Garden and take a picture together at the water fountain, wander through ancient trees in the woodland walks, take a seat on the pergola in the serene Mediterranean Garden and spot wildlife at the pond. Little ones can even spend an hour or two playing in the Adventure Playground.

Before you leave, you might also wish to call into the shop and deli where you can buy a range of goodies perfect for the journey home or pay a visit to the pre-loved bookshop for a new read.

Booking in advance is essential, see the event website for more information on how to book.
