Tenby South Beach

Tenby South Beach is a 2 mile stretch of soft sands within walking distance of the popular cobbled resort of Tenby. Backed by dunes, this bay reaches as far as Penally in the west and at low tide, it joins onto Tenby Castle Beach in the east. 

It is popular with families of all ages due to the soft sand underfoot and the generally calm waters in summer. Out of all four beaches, you'll find in Tenby, this one is a favourite amongst dog owners as the others impose dog restrictions during the summer months. This coastal town is a popular one amongst holidaymakers so you'll find a vast array of holiday cottages in Tenby, perfect for getaways at any time of year.

Activities

The beach is ideal for families with plenty of space for ball games, especially at low tide, with fantastic views out over the islands of Caldey and St Margaret's giving you a wonderful setting for sunbathing. The beach is popular for leisurely activities such as bodyboarding and kayaking as the seas are generally quite calm whilst the winter months are more suited to surfing as the seas are rougher and the waves are bigger. 

With the town and other beaches in close proximity, there are a wealth of activities on offer here. Stroll to Tenby Harbour to book sea fishing trips, Caldey Island trips or to purchase some fresh seafood. Wander down to Tenby Castle Beach at low tide to watch or board the Caldey ferry or to sightsee St Catherine's Island protruding from the shore.

Continue around to Tenby Harbour Beach to see the iconic scenes of boats moored here in real life, rather than just on the postcards for sale throughout the town. On the opposite side of this small but lively seaside town is where you will find Tenby North Beach, the well-known destination for the swim legs of the Long Course Weekend and Ironman Wales. 

Events

The car park at Tenby South Beach is home to the Pembrokeshire Street Food Festival, a relatively new addition to the Pembrokeshire events calendar. Usually taking place in June each year, this event is a must-visit for foodies with a selection of local and Welsh outlets setting up their stalls for a weekend-long celebration of all things street food. Expect milkshakes, tacos, ice creams, pies and more. 

Facilities

There is a car park (paid) with toilet facilities just behind the beach and a further car park at the top of the cliff with additional spaces.

During the summer months, there are facilities for the hire of deckchairs and sunbeds making it a great place to spend the whole day relaxing and sunbathing on the beach.

A seasonal lifeguard service is provided daily between May and September, with weekends and Bank Holidays covered from April.

There are plenty of facilities here with the Beach Box Cafe on the edge of the car park serving drinks, snacks and ice-creams. Salty's Beach Bar & Restaurant just next to the car park serves a range of meals from breakfast to dinner. The outside seating area here is a favourite place for a drink or meal overlooking the beach when the weather is a little warmer. There is also a small kiosk next to the restaurant known as Salty's Shack serving drinks snacks and ice-creams.

Dog Friendly

Dog restrictions apply to the beach below the cliffs, east of the beach car park/café 1 May to 30 September.
