Self-catering holidays in Stackpole
A small, pretty settlement found just four miles south of Pembroke and in-between the equally lovely Freshwater East Beach and Bosherston, it has a population of only 200.
The village is located close to a vast range of natural beauty spots - including some of the most magnificent Blue Flag Award beaches in the country – and plenty of other diverse attractions like St Govan’s Chapel, Pembroke Castle and Carew Karting.
The village is home to many charming character cottages and a well-regarded pub, the Stackpole Inn, which occupies a 16th-century building. It is better known, however, for the nearby Stackpole Estate, Stackpole Quay and Barafundle Bay – the latter of which has described by the Sunday Times as ‘a desert island dream beach in Wales’. Recognised as a National Nature Reserve, Stackpole Estate’s Grade I-listed landscape once set a scenic backdrop to a now long-gone stately home, Stackpole Court, which was owned by the Cawdor family. Although the house is no more, it’s not difficult to imagine what a majestically beautiful part of the area it would have been in its day.
Our Stackpole holiday cottages benefit from being surrounded by gorgeous woodland and farmland and, just outside the main village, you will find the Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre, a multi-use venue which is run by the National Trust. The centre is near the neighbouring village of Bosherston, with its fabulous lily ponds and spectacular eight-arch bridge, and occupies a wonderfully tranquil part of the Stackpole Estate – and, what’s more, it is just a one-mile walk away from the stunning Broad Haven South Beach.
The amazing natural features that make the Stackpole area so unique are accessible all year round, and there’s always something you won’t have seen yet that is worth taking the time to discover. The vibrant autumnal colours that proliferate throughout the woodland as the days get shorter are magnificent, the freshly flourishing daffodils and snowdrops are truly splendid in spring, and even the bare trees of winter provide a memorable landscape of twiggy silhouettes. In summer, meanwhile, the lilies of nearby Bosherton bloom in full splendour.
