A Little About Pwllgwaelod...

Pwllgwaelod is just 1/2 mile from both Dinas and Cwm yr Eglwys, yet is a sanctuary of its very own. Relaxing comes easy here and it’s easy to forget your woes. However, for those who prefer a more energetic holiday, there are public tennis courts which can be booked in both Dinas and Fishguard, along with a public swimming pool, mountain bike hire centre and horse riding stables which can all be found within a close drive.

The Old Sailor’s restaurant is sat on the sea front and serves an excellent selection of food, although it’s most well-known for it’s Pembrokeshire seafood dishes.

The nearby village of Dinas, located within walking distance, is well equipped with a village shop, pubs, restaurant, a part time post office and a lovely fish and chip shop.

Pwllgwaelod is situated at the start of a wonderful walk from the beach, around Dinas Headland into Cwm yr Eglwys, and back through a flat wooded valley (with a path designed for the disabled) to Pwllgwaelod Beach. Upon this scenic stroll, you’ll notice a whole host of wildlife, marine life and wild flowers.

The towns of Fishguard and Newport are also a short drive away and well worth a visit.

Places to visit in Pwllgwaelod...

Pwllgwaelod Beach
A small sandy beach with cliffs on either side means that the west facing Pwllgwaelod is unsuitable for most 'forces-of-nature' sports, however it is very handy for launching small boats and kayaks/canoes. There are low rocks on both sides to clamber over and numerous rockpools. The beach does however offer good views across Fishguard Bay to Fishguard Harbour and a short walk of a kilometre or so takes you across the southern end of Dinas Island to the beach at Cwm-yr-Eglwys.
The Old Sailor
Formerly the Sailors Safety, this pub/restaurant dates from 1593. It is named for the light it once kept burning as a guide to ships. Set in a beautiful location where you can view spectacular sunsets, The Old Sailors restaurant stands on the beachside at Pwllgwaelod. A wide selection of local seafood is on the menu daily, with the local crab and lobster a must for all seafood lovers. For those with a more traditional taste there is a fantastic homemade Steak & Ale pie. A fine selection of local beers and fine wines available.
