Each of the lanes surrounding the hamlet twist and turn and are highly banked with hedgerows brimming with wild flowers and wildlife, on very warm summer days keep your eyes peeled for shy little lizards, scurrying across the lanes from one hedge to another.
Throughout various times of the year it’s fairly likely you will see buzzards and barn owls, perched grandly on the highest of branches or telegraph poles looking out for their next snack.
Carew Newton is also a superb base for walkers. The rolling fields and pretty lanes play host to numerous footpaths of a variety of distances, of which dogs are also welcome to explore. Why not take a gentle 5 minute walk down the hill from the hamlet and across the below field to Carew Castle, before continuing around the mill pond, crossing the medieval bridge and back up through more fields and around the top of a beautiful naturally decorated quarry and back along the lane to your cottage. This is a fully signposted route that will really make you smile!
For you more adventurous characters, why not take the 15 minute drive to Pembroke Dock Port and catch the ferry for a return daytrip to Ireland.
