Doggy Day Out in Tenby
Follow Bruce, the Golden Retriever's Day Out at the Beach
Mum's making me write about my day out in Tenby so here you go...
I wake up, first I have to get some belly rubs from Dad before I even think about what to do next. Then I steal a sock to get some morning chaos. I love socks. Next, we go downstairs and I eat breakfast. The bowl is smaller than I’d like so I decide it’s time to eat my Mums breakfast too. She won’t mind if I do it when she’s not looking. Next up, we take a nap because I’ve already had such a hectic day.
Once I’m finished with my stretches after my nap, the first thing I do is jump all over my humans just to make sure they’re okay. Then I grab my lead and give my best puppy eyes. This always works such a treat. TREAT! After I’ve convinced Dad to give me my mid-morning snack, we head out for my walky walk.
This morning we’re going to one of my favourite places to sniff, the beach. The weather is be-a-ut-iful in Tenby today. The sun is sunning. The trees are treeing. We head to North Beach first. It’s kind of busy today so right when I get on the sand, I do my little leg kicks to show everyone on the beach who is boss.
Because I trained my human so well, he knows that I need a minimum of 30 minutes straight up playtime. This is where things get messy. The ball fell into the ocean. But I am such a good boy that I went and I got it. We walk over to the harbour, this is where all the scary boats are but it looks nice I guess and I like to sniff around here the best.
Next, we walk out of the harbour and over to Castle Beach but first, we go to Castle Hill past the lifeboat stations. Sometimes I like to stop here and take a little siesta while my humans sit on one of the benches and take in the view. They always say how nice it is up here. I enjoy the sun. I enjoy the sound of the waves.
Now back to business. We go down to Castle Beach and I’m just strutting my stuff loving life when I see these new humans. They’re playing with a ball and because ball is life, naturally I had to steal it from them. I don’t think they minded because I am such a cute good boy. Dad tells me off for stealing but the other humans were stroking me and telling me how handsome I am. I just don’t know what to think with all these mixed signals.
The tide’s low so we play some more fetch together but this time it’s with a stick I found and… uh oh DANGER! DANGER! Seagull. I nearly had him this time.
Distraction over. I’m a little hesitant at first to get the stick because the scary waves were about to catch it, but because I am so brave I grabbed it and I walked away. Like a boss.
After all of the playing and fetching, I had not realised we were already at South Beach. This is one of my favs. All of my friends come here. We explore the beach but Dad wants to head back and up the path of the cliff. I know what this means. No more beach. I stand my ground to show I’m not leaving. Dad teases me with treats and… I accept. I really don’t want to leave but I am getting tired. We head back home and I snuggle up with my two favourite humans watching my favourite TV, football. Ball is life. Dad agrees. Mum doesn’t. Life is Golden.
