Royal Coronation Events in Pembrokeshire

Celebrate the first UK coronation in 70 years

The Coronation of the King and Queen Consort will take place on Saturday, May 6th and the weekend will be extended to include a new bank holiday on Monday, May 8th.

It’s been 70 years since the late Queen Elizabeth was crowned in 1953 and to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, Pembrokeshire is putting on a show.

Picnics and street parties will be going on throughout the Bank Holiday weekend. Here’s a list of all the big events announced so far across Pembrokeshire to celebrate the coronation.

Royal Coronation Events in Pembrokeshire

 

Oakwood Theme Park 

Based in the heart of Pembrokeshire, Oakwood Theme Park boasts fun for the whole family with toddler-friendly rides and fast thrills. There are also free comfy dog kennels so that every member of the family can come along. To celebrate the coronation, there will be a coronation celebration at the park on the 6th and 7th of May. They are also offering 50% off day pass visits until the 21st of May. This will make an amazing few days spent with the family.

St Davids Cathedral

A Coronation Prom will be taking place at St Davids Cathedral on the eve of the coronation, Friday 5th of May at 7:30 pm. There will be a feast of uplifting Orchestral Coronation Music. The British Sinfonietta, introduced and conducted by Royal Variety Show & Royal Albert Hall Pembrokeshire-based Maestro, Ian McMillan-Davidson, in stirring Coronation Marches by former Master of The King’s Music, Sir Edward Elgar & Sir William Walton. This will be combined with favourite Film, TV & Radio Themes beloved by the new King & Queen consort on the eve of their Coronation.

The programme is an exciting mix of rousing orchestral music that will be played the next day in Westminster Abbey at this historic and patriotic Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. This will also reflect their well-known musical favourites from film, TV & Radio including, Paddington 2, Desert island Discs, The Archers, EastEnders, My Fair Lady & The King and I to name a few!

Advance booking for this popular Pembrokeshire Coronation Event is strongly advised to avoid disappointment as demand is expected to be high.

Pembroke Castle

To mark the occasion of the King's Coronation, Pembroke Castle will be staging a three-day Coronation celebration weekend for their visitors to enjoy in a memorable and historic setting. Throughout the three days, there will be a large outdoor screen which will be broadcasting all of the live action from London and Windsor. Visitors will be welcome to picnic on the lawn, and take in every minute of the Coronation which will be full of tradition and pageantry. 

Pembroke Castle

In addition to this, there will be entertainment from Fiery Jack, including a circus workshop, a medieval games emporium and Fiery Jack's circus skills walkabout. There will be fairground stalls and a Royalty themed children's trail to follow around the castle grounds. On the Bank Holiday Monday, the big screen will broadcast further live action from London and at 2 pm there will be showing Disney's live-action version of The Lion King.  

Fel 'Na May Festival

While the world will be tuning in to the Coronation of King Charles III, on the 6th of May Welsh music lovers will be turning up the volume at the north Pembrokeshire music festival, Gwyl Fel ‘Na Mai.

People of all ages from throughout Wales will get to listen to an incredible line-up of top-quality Welsh musicians in the hills near the Frenni Fawr. 

The activities will start in the afternoon and continue until the evening, with the aim of delivering quality entertainment in a community and friendly festival that the whole family can enjoy. This includes activities for children of all ages and the site offers plenty of parking facilities.

National Botanic Garden of Wales 

Join The National Botanic Garden of Wales for its coronation celebration weekend. Head across the border for the day in Carmarthenshire to enjoy live music, nature-inspired activities, flying displays and celebratory food at the gardens. Whilst you're there treat yourself to a coronation-inspired meal. There will be a coronation tea inspired by King Charles' favourite foods. Egg cress sandwiches, bara birth, earl grey tea and a small pot of honey. Dogs are also welcome to come along and explore the 568 acres!

The King’s Coronation Party, Neyland

A party fit for a King! Celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III at the Neyland Community Hub. Free entry for everyone to enjoy hours of fun happening on Sunday 7th of May from 3 pm. There will be 3-5 bouncy castles, an inflatable obstacle course, face painting as well as more kids activities. Function 22 party band will be performing live to kick start your evening. Coronation cocktails will be on the go and Pembs Pizza Co will be serving up the most delicious pizza around! 

The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery

The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery has created a great excuse to pawty for the Royal Coronation. Celebrate King Charles and the extra bank holiday in style by indulging your precious pooch with delicious coronation-themed iced dog biscuits.

Coronation Afternoon Tea Garden Party, Fishguard

On Sunday 7th of May from 1:30-4 pm, The Old Coach House in Fishguard will be hosting a coronation afternoon tea garden party. Entry is £12 or £15 with a glass of Buck's Fizz (children £5). The delicious afternoon tea will include sandwiches, savouries, homemade scones & clotted cream, homemade trifle & a selection of cakes. Booking is essential to avoid disappointment!

Haverfordwest Town Council  Celebration

Haverfordwest Town Council are holding a celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III on Sunday 7th May from 2 pm until 8 pm in Quayside Car Park. At this free event, Pure West Radio will be on the stage live to present all the acts. There will be free live music, bouncy castles, face painters, balloon twisting, food and a children’s competition for the best-dressed Kings and Queens with prizes. With further children’s entertainment and food/beverages available for purchase.
