Browser Security

Coastal Cottages value your privacy and security, we have detected that your browser is not up to date (uses an insecure version of the TLS protocol to encrypt data during secure sessions).

It’s easy to continue with your payment, you can call us to pay over the phone or you can update your browser and we have put instructions to do this along with links, below.

To call us: our offices are open 7 days a week - until 8pm (Sunday until 5pm). Our friendly team will be happy to help with your booking and process your payment over the phone, telephone us on  01437 765 765.

What is TLS?  TLS stands for "Transport Layer Security" It is the security protocol that allows computers to communicate over the internet securely. Due to several weaknesses found in version 1.0 of the TLS protocol all payment providers now require that any site accepting credit card payments use TLS 1.2, this is first and foremost to protect your data.

How do I upgrade my browser?  It's recommended that you upgrade your browser(preferred) or where possible update the settings in your existing browser to use a secure version of the TLS protocol. Please see the guidance notes below for upgrading your browser or modifying your browser settings.

Upgrading your browser

Internet Explorer - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17621/internet-explorer-downloads

Firefox - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

Chrome - https://www.google.com/chrome/

Safari - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204416

Updating your browser settings

Internet Explorer

  • Go to Tools and select Internet Options
  • Select the Advanced tab in Internet Options
  • Enable(check) TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2
  • Click on Apply and OK to complete the procedure

Firefox

Firefox no longer has an interface to modify protocol settings so you will need to directly modify the integer values in the about:config page:

  • Type about:config into the address bar
  • Select 'I accept the risk!' if you are shown a warning message
  • Type security.tls.version.min into the search box.
  • Double-click on the security.tls.version.min row
  • Set the value to '4'
  • Click 'OK'

Chrome

If you are using Google Chrome version 22 or greater, TLS 1.1 is automatically supported.  TLS 1.1 & 1.2 are automatically enabled from version 29 onwards.

Apple Safari

There are no options for enabling SSL protocols. If you are using Safari version 7 or greater, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are automatically enabled.
