World Cancer Day 2022 fell on Friday 4th February this year and as we already had plans to host a welcome lunch for our team’s new members, we decided to level up the celebrations and add a fundraising bake sale to the plans.
As you might imagine, we have one or two (or more!) sweet-tooths amongst the team and so it didn’t take much convincing to get everyone excited about the idea of a cake sale. Many a time was spent discussing potential recipe ideas and finding out what everyone else was planning to bake.
Every member of our small team brought in a delicious homemade treat; we had brownies, carrot cakes, rocky roads. There was bara brith, chocolate cupcakes, a Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle cake – all the favourites and more. Plus we even had a few homemade scotch eggs and half a dozen hen’s eggs from one of the team’s personal flock of chickens!
To say we managed to put on a pretty good spread is a rather large understatement - we may or may not have been munching our way through sweet treats for an entire week afterwards. As it was a bake sale of course, the team were just as generous with their fundraising as they were with their baking and we managed to raise an impressive £250. A figure which was then matched by the company.
Did you know that just £6 can buy an important science beaker for a CRUK scientist to use? Or that £20 can purchase an essential lab coat? £50 can buy a microscope lens whilst £100 can pay for a cancer biopsy.
