Race for Life - Completed It!
Ten members signed up for the 5k in aid of Cancer Research UK
As part of our 40th celebrations this year, we gathered together a team of ten people to take part in the 2022 Pembrokeshire Race For Life. The event which took place on 22nd June at Oakwood Theme Park saw roughly 250 people take part in the evening 5k raising some £20,000 in total so far.
We couldn't have asked for better weather; the sun was shining, there was not a cloud in the sky and the atmosphere throughout this event was electric. As a team at Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire, we arrived at the venue early to set up our exhibition stand and our giant deckchair - a popular feature at the start line!
We gathered around the stage by the start line to hear some inspirational words and stories from cancer survivors before kicking up our knees in a Mr Motivator-style warm-up which had the entire crowd laughing and sweating before we had even set off.
With that, the crowd was split into two - the runners and the walkers. The sound of horns marked the start of the race and we were off. The 5k route proceeded to be two laps around the closed theme park, taking us past the empty rides we all know and love such as Megaphobia, Bounce, Treetops and Snake River Falls - plus the Pirate Ship of course!

Members of the Pembrokeshire Rotary Clubs lined the streets as marshals making sure everyone kept on the right track and everyone received applause as we each crossed the finish line, where we were presented with medals and a snack as a hearty well done.
As congratulations to all participants, volunteers and staff who organised the event; we were handing out glasses of fizz for all from our Coastal Cottages stands with another chance to take a seat on the deckchair and selfies at the "We Did It" station before heading off home.
We would like to thank Sophie and the team at CRUK for organising such a brilliant event and also to everyone who came along and made it such a fun evening. We're already looking at other events our team can join in with!
