Usually, participants of this campaign agree to walk 10,000 steps each day for the 31 days of the month but here at Coastal Cottages, we decided to do something a little different. Living in Pembrokeshire with the magnificent 186-mile Coast Path right on our doorstep, we just knew we had to make the most of this breathtaking location. And with that, our own Walk All Over Cancer challenge was born.
Our small local team pledged to collectively complete the full length of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path between us and share our stories along the way, and boy did we smash that target! Even if we do say so ourselves.
Each member of our team handpicked a scenic stretch of the Path, many taking on routes they had never walked before, and came back feeling inspired with plenty of pictures to share from their day. Some were luckier than ever and were blessed with those few days of “heatwave” weather whilst others, unfortunately, battled sideways rain and galeforce winds!
But, as we are an ambitious bunch, we didn’t stop there. Mike Hughes, our very own Head of IT, levelled up and put us all to shame with Mike's Hike. He took on his own solo challenge with a 7-day undertaking of the 186-mile Path. He set us up with an online tracker so we could see his progress and off he went.
His one-man mission involved a mix of running and walking, with plenty of pitstops to take photos it seems (and the occasional ice cream of course!). Even with this mammoth task, our cheery chap always had a smile on his face - particularly when taking his last steps to touch the Coast Path marker at the end in Amroth.
This month-long challenge was all in aid of Cancer Research UK, a charity that is very dear to our hearts indeed. This charity does truly life-changing work at fighting cancer and we are proud to be supporting them with various fundraising efforts throughout the year.
We’re aiming to reach £40,000 by the end of the year so keep an eye out for more fundraising campaigns throughout the rest of the year. Every donation, no matter how small, is sincerely appreciated and we would love to have your support in reaching our target. Please help us to get there by heading over to our online fundraising page.
Did you know that £25 can fund one cancer nurse for an hour whilst £1,500 can fund ten cancer nurses for a whole day? As little as £4 can buy 100 test tubes and £30,000 can buy a gene gun which helps Cancer Research UK scientists learn more about cancer's weaknesses.
