Abermawr to Trefin

Coastal Cottages Walk All Over Cancer

With the sun shining on us, we started our walk from the quaint village of Trefin and headed onto the coastal path from Aberfelin.

This is a beautiful rocky bay where you will also find the ruins of Aberfelin Corn Mill, where wheat was milled by the villagers of Trefin and nearby locals for the purpose of flour and barley to feed livestock (It closed back in 1918 after almost 500 years of use). It is always a nice spot to sit on a sunny day to take in the sunshine and beautiful surroundings. We set off on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path with a slight incline, stopping to take in the views at the top and spotting a seal in the sea below, as if he was seeing us off!

Abercastle

Continuing along the path out of Trefin towards Abercastle, we took in the sea air and were fortunate to see the beautiful spring lambs enjoying the sun just as much as we were in the fields around us. We also spotted some pretty large badger holes and a number of sea birds. Enjoying our walk and with the time flying by, we caught sight of a harbour - Abercastle Beach! My partner Ashton and I reminisced on happy memories of times spent in Abercastle while we headed down the path to the village. Showing my partner our cottages located in the village, we stopped and chatted with some friendly holidaymakers about our mutual appreciation of Pembrokeshire.

We then set back off on the coastal path, heading towards Pwllstrodur where we planned to stop for our lunch. It took around another 20-25 minutes walk to reach Pwllstrodur, our tummies were starting to rumble so we were quite glad when we finally set eyes on the beach. Exploring the bay after lunch, we came across a small waterfall and couldn't resist dipping our hands into the water to help cool us down on such a hot day!

Pembrokeshire Coast Path

Feeling re-energised, we set off on the final part of our walk towards my favourite beach, Abermawr. Although the headland here was quite a steep climb up from Pwllstrodur, the view as we kept walking was breathtaking. The views showed how far we had walked from Abercastle so we had to stop and take some pictures! We could also see Garn Fawr near Strumble Head ahead of us.

In the late afternoon sun, we could see Abermawr in the distance; a beach that brings so many happy memories. From the beautiful woodland filled with my favourite flower, bluebells, to the special memories of my childhood spending hours here with my family having picnics, swimming and exploring. Abermawr will always be close to my heart and with the busy lives we lead, this walk made me really realise how lucky we are to call our Pembrokeshire "gatre" (that's Welsh for "home")!

The sun had its hat on for Elen's scenic northwestern hike with her partner, a journey that conjured many a childhood memory for her.
