St Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, which makes her the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine. Dwynwen lived during the 5th Century and fell in love with a prince whom she was forbidden to marry. After asking God to grant her wish that the hopes and dreams of all true lovers be met, she then devoted the rest of her life to God's service. Dwynwen then founded a convent on Llanddwyn, where a well named after her was believed to be able to tell visitors whether or not true love and happiness would be theirs.
