The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery

Pembrokeshire's only bakery specifically for pets

Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery Owners

If you’re in Pembrokeshire and you have a dog, then a visit to The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery is a must.

Just like us humans, our four-legged members of the family deserve a treat every now and again. Instead of looking towards mass-produced snacks to pamper your pooch with, try something handmade by a local Pembrokeshire-based team next time. We all know how our favourite sweet treat tastes when made fresh by a local baker, so why not spoil your dogs with the very same experience?

About The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery

Launched in 2021 by a friends-come-family duo, Ali and Kel Fowler, The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery is still a relatively new business within the county’s landscape but it’s impressive to see how far they’ve come in just a short space of time.

The ethos of the brand is simple, to provide nutritious but delicious treats made from quality natural ingredients.

Having looked at various ingredient lists for treats that are easily available to purchase in all the usual places, they were staggered at the use of preservatives involved and thus, an idea was born. What if they could create a range of tasty products that dogs will love by using only clean and fresh ingredients? (Spoiler, they’ve done exactly that!)

Kel’s extensive background in cheffing for a luxury local hotel, paired with Ali’s previous marketing experience - along with a splash of determination and a hearty dose of passion - made them the perfect team to bring this project to life.

The pair are involved in every single aspect of the production process and business strategy, bar perhaps trying the treats of course! They leave that to their very friendly mascot Floki, a Staffy cross Patterdale Terrier with a little bit of English Bull Dog as they describe him.

Treats from The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery

Those of you who have been following The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery for a while will remember that they used to be based in Pembroke Dock alongside Raw 4 Dogs and a popular groomer. Nowadays though, they can be found right in the heart of Haverfordwest town centre at Pembrokeshire's first-ever doggy cafe! Head down Quay Street from Castle Square and you'll soon see their brightly painted base on your right, with plenty of treats to suit all! Open from 10am til 4pm Monday to Friday and from 10am til 2pm on Saturdays, you can pop in 6 days a week.

Having a doggy cafe has been on the founders' bucket list since their formation and it's safe to say, it is everything you'd hope for and more!

Step inside and you'll find a beautiful cafe welcoming both humans and dogs. Grab a seat for a cuppa and a catch-up whilst your pup munches on their very own hand-baked treat; there's coffee and cake for humans with plenty of tasty, nutritious treats for your furry friend too. Not only that, but you'll also be able to browse a whole selection of dog-themed gifts and items. Think vegan shampoos from the Narberth Soap Co to keep your canine smelling great as well as leads, collars and harnesses from Pembs Pooches.

Pembrokeshire's first ever doggy cafe

Behind the counter, you find a wall adorned with jars and jars of different dog treats - picture a traditional sweet shop and you're on the right track. You can choose from a whole selection to find your dog's new favourite snack and the team will even weigh out different quantities as you'd have seen in sweet shops of old. Pick up a scoop or two of your dog’s best-loved treat or spoil them with something specially created like dog-nuts (aka a doggy doughnut), pupcakes (a cupcake for pups), dog friendly sorbet, pupcorn (popcorn for your pooch) and more.

For something a little extra, you could try an afternoon tea biscuit set or even a dog friendly celebration cake! Help your furry friend celebrate their birthday or anniversary date with their very own dog-safe cake.

It's worth noting once again that all dog treats made, everything from the pupcakes to the dog-nuts to the biscuits, are made in this very building. With their new open-style kitchen within the cafe, chances are that you might even see chef Kel preparing something delicious during your visit! So if you have any questions about the ingredients, the Fowler-pair are the people to ask as they know the products inside-out.

The really important thing to remember is that each and every item you purchase from The Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery is handmade with clean and natural ingredients. There are absolutely no preservatives to be found in these goodies. You might even be pleased to hear that they are all vegan too!

The Fowler-duo are even adapting a range to cater for those with specific dietary requirements such as diabetic and pancreatic health concerns. You can even ask them for a nut-free treat if you have allergies.

All biscuits are expertly dehydrated too, allowing them a longer shelf life of up to ten weeks, without having to introduce any unnatural preservatives into the Pet Bakery kitchen. That said, certain items like the dog-nuts and the cakes are prepared fresh meaning you’ll have to store them in the fridge and keep them chilled until just before you want to feed them to your dog.

Did You Know?

One of the reasons that Ali and Kel are so focussed on creating a great range of natural dog treats is because a dog’s diet can actually have an impact on their behaviour. For instance, their camomile selection can help to ease and soothe dogs who are feeling nervous and/or stressed.

How to Buy

As mentioned above, you can head to their bakery and cafe in Haverfordwest to pick up your snacks directly from the team. You’ll also find them at the weekly Farmer’s Market in Haverfordwest every Friday morning, just head to Castle Square in the centre of the town and you’ll find several stalls selling local produce and handmade gifts. There’ll be everything from honey to eggs, fresh meat and dog treats!

Alternatively, you can pre-order your Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery treats through our Concierge team and we’ll make sure they’re delivered straight to your holiday cottage for you. Whether it’s your dog’s very first cottage holiday, their birthday or a special anniversary, something purchased from this family-run bakery is sure to be devoured within moments. Just give us a call and we can add them to your booking for you.

And don’t forget, there doesn’t need to be a special occasion to show your dog how much you love them. Sometimes “just because” is a good enough excuse.
