What’s on in Pembrokeshire New Year's Eve?

New Year's Eve Events in West Wales

New Year

Whether you want to start 2024 with a bang or blow out the cobwebs with a brisk walk on New Year’s Day, there are plenty of events going on in Pembrokeshire to keep you entertained.

When visiting Pembrokeshire, there are many places to experience over New Year and it can often be difficult to know where to begin. Therefore, we’ve picked what we think are some of the best events in the country to help guide you to where you want to be when the clock strikes 12.

Tenby Fireworks

Like always, Tenby will be expecting a busy end to the year, as New Year revellers head to the seaside town to welcome in 2024 with a bang! This free event in Tudor Square will see large crowds gathering to enjoy the countdown and watch the spectacular fireworks display hosted by Tenby House in the centre of the town.

Fishguard Street Party

The coastal town of Fishguard has a reputation for holding the best New Year’s Eve street party in the whole of West Wales. Promoted for children and all the family, this party spreads through the whole town. Expect a stage with bands playing music all night, stalls selling food along the streets and pubs to warm the masses. At midnight the traditional fireworks display sees in 2024. You usually need to buy a wristband for this event as it’s so popular. All the proceeds go back into the event prep for the next New Year event, so you can keep returning year after year.

Saundersfoot Pet-Friendly Fireworks

If you’ve planned a getaway in Pembrokeshire this New Year and you don’t want to leave the pooch behind, then Saundersfoot is the place to be. Just like last year, the fireworks on display from the harbour point will have a quieter bang to prevent stress and scares. This is to help with the RSPCA’s campaign #BangOutOfOrder which calls for the UK government to urgently review fireworks regulations. The best part of the quieter bang in Saundersfoot is that we have many dog-friendly cottages available in and around the seaside village for this New Year.

If you’re looking to escape the crowds and ditch the tedious traditions to join in a more wholesome commemoration then we suggest a mindful New Year Celebration in Pembrokeshire.

Go for a New Year Swim

For the more adventurous, there are some New Year's Day swims. So blow out the cobwebs and start the new year afresh. If your head is feeling a little fuzzy from the night before celebrations, you’ll find nothing that cures like a cold swim. So kickstart one of your New Year’s Resolutions with a cold water supercharge for your metabolism. Cold water swimming has become increasingly popular, and in Pembrokeshire, you have no end of beaches and coves to choose from for your chilly dip!

Head to Saundersfoot for the traditional New Year's Day Swim which first started in 1984. The popular event attracts thousands of spectators to the seaside village as well as the thousands that enter the sea, with a large percentage in fancy dress!

If staying further north of the country, head to Whitesands New Year’s Day Charity Swim. A local charitable organisation, the St Davids Penknife Club, run this annual swim on Whitesands, a favourite local surfing beach on the westernmost tip of Wales. When your teeth stop chattering, you can begin to appreciate the glorious scenery.

Spot the Wildlife

If a dip in the sea isn’t for you, there’s the New Year’s Day porpoise watch and walk at Strumble Head which could be more suited. Plan to start the year with a whale of a time. Held by the Sea Trust conservation charity, the watch will start at Strumble Head observatory at 2pm on January  1st. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are essential!

New Year Pilgrimage

Anyone who would like to begin the new year in more spiritual surroundings will enjoy the New Year concert at St David’s Cathedral, with fantastic entertainment in an even more amazing setting.

With all these great events and many more going on around Pembrokeshire, there are plenty of different ways for you to bid a fond farewell to 2023 and celebrate the beginning of 2024.
