Broad Haven in Pembrokeshire of West Wales

Broad Haven phone home!

It may seem to most that Pembrokeshire is a secluded, serene county where there’s not much going on. But, it’s not always quiet cottage life around here.

In fact, there’s more to our stunning sunsets and dark starry skies than first meets the eye. Over the years there have been multiple mysterious sightings across the county with most taking place at one of the UK’s largest mass sightings in the remote village of Broad Haven.

Where is Broad Haven?

Broad Haven (not to be confused with Broadhaven South) is a popular seaside village overlooking St Brides Bay on the west coast of Pembrokeshire in Wales. Most know Broad Haven for its incredible Blue Flag beach that comes to life in the summer months but for the past 45 years, it's also been known for something else. Something that can only be described as being out of this world.

The Broad Haven UFO Incident

In 1977, February 4th should have been just a normal day for a group of pupils at Broad Haven Primary School. However, what they experienced that day has shined a worldwide limelight on the popular seaside village.

14 children, just 10 years of age, all claimed to have seen a UFO. At the time, the headmaster thought he was having his leg pulled when his pupils came rushing back to class after their lunch break to share what they had all seen. They described a cigar-shaped object with a central dome on top and a red pulsating light. Other children also reported seeing an 8ft tall silver, alien-like creature.

To suss if there was any truth to their tales, the headteacher separated all the children and made them draw what they had seen. Unbelievably all the drawings were fairly similar to each other. After a few days, word got out creating a media frenzy. This led more residents from the local area to share stories of their own sightings that were similar events to those of the school children.

In total, there were at least 450 extraterrestrial encounters reported that supported the children’s story of the Broad Haven UFO. So it makes perfect sense why Pembrokeshire earned the nickname, the ‘Broad Haven Triangle’.

Nothing conclusive was ever reported to the public by the government about these sightings. Fast forward to the present day, more than 45 years later, and the same group of schoolchildren still insist it all happened. The Broad Haven UFO is still a mystery.

This once quiet village is creating a media frenzy once again from a new documentary series recently released on Netflix. Encounters offers a journey into the unexplained UFO and alien sightings all the way from one of our favourite seaside villages in Pembrokeshire to events that have been reported from all around the world. The documentary uncovers more truth to the mystery of our Welsh aliens.

Just remember, if you’re in Broad Haven on your holidays, make sure to have your binoculars at the ready when looking out to the sea-horizon sunsets or up at the designated dark sky area. You might be lucky enough to spot one of Pembrokeshire’s most talked-about unsolved mysteries.
