Fishguard Fort is located on the clifftop at Castle Hill and is not only a historic place to visit, but it's location boasts incredible views over Fishguard, the surrounding coastline and of course the sea. Originally armed with 8 cannons, you can now see four wonderfully restored cannons overlooking the water as well as what once was the storehouse for all the ammunition.
For those interested in local history, the fort played a significant role in The Last Invasion of Britain in 1797 as the cannon-fire encouraged the invading French army to land further along the coastline.
Whether you have an interest in Pembrokeshire history or not, the walk along to the fort is highly recommended for the stunning views and peaceful retreat from the busy Fishguard town.
