About Penlan Cottage

Penlan Cottage is one of a pair of semi-detached cottages set down a lane surrounded by farmland yet only a 10 minute downhill walk from the tiny City of St Davids.

Beautifully restored and renovated, it retains all its original charm and has been wonderfully furnished by a local interior designer (Pethau Bychain- Ritson Interiors) reflecting the soft tones of nature with greys, blues and coral complimenting the timeless comfortable feel. Enjoy a morning coffee on the bench on the front terrace and soak up the lovely views. Inside there is ample space to relax with a light dual-aspect sitting room complete with sofa bed and French doors opening to the enclosed lawned garden, perfect for dining alfresco on a summer’s evening. The second cosy sitting room with its original fire place left as a feature has 1 step up into the spacious cottage style fitted kitchen/diner. Stairs lead you to the two bedrooms above, both of which offer super views over the fields to Carn Llidi and the coast in the distance.

The famous tiny city of St Davids has an excellent selection of pubs, shops, recommended restaurants and galleries to enjoy, while the beautiful Cathedral and Bishops Palace hold a number of events throughout the year and is the heart of the community. The area abounds in footpaths for you to explore, take a walk up Carn Llidi to really take in the panoramic views over the coast and stunning sunsets or join the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to link together the many bays and beaches. Whitesands, named officially one of the best beaches in the world is only 1.5 miles away. Highly rated by families and surfers both professional and beginners, it has a hire shop and seasonal beachside cafe for refreshments. There are a number of other beaches nearby round the St Davids peninsula including St Nons Bay and Caerfai. A boat trip from St Justinians should not be missed either around the islands of  Ramsey and Skomer or visit to really appreciate the amazing bird and wildlife this area has to offer, September is best to see the seal pups on the beaches at Ramsey. There is something for everyone, even golf can be enjoyed on a course with the most stunning sea backdrop.

ARRIVAL Penlan Cottage is accessed via a 5-bar double gate along a tarmac driveway leading to an ample parking area – up to 2 cars. One space is directly outside Penlan cottage on a level tarmac area. There is a step up to the enclosed courtyard. Access to the main entrance door is along a slate level path. HALL One step leads into a small hall with access to the lounge, on the right hand side, a sitting room on the left hand side and stairs to the two bedrooms. Quarry tiled floor. LOUNGE The doorway to the lounge has a raised threshold. Wood laminate flooring. There is an electric wood burning effect stove, TV with Freeview operated by a remote control and a DVD player. A patio door leads to a level paved patio from which there is access to a sloping, lawned area. There is a raised threshold (approximately three inches) to the patio door with a step down to the paved patio. Access to a downstairs shower room with wc and heated towel rail. The shower has a step (approximately six inches) into the shower cubicle. SITTING ROOM Accessed from the hallway. Wood laminate flooring. Electric wood burning effect stove. The kitchen is accessed by a step from this room. KITCHEN Quarry tiled floor. Low level oven, fridge/freezer, washer/drier and dishwasher. GARDEN/PATIO AREA Access from the kitchen via the back door with a small step (approximately one inch). The garden is accessed via a level gravel pathway with a slight slope leading to the lawned area. The garden is enclosed. STAIRS Ten steps/risers with handrail lead to a small landing with three steps leading off on to the left hand side to the bedroom and shower room and three steps on the right hand side another bedroom. Staircase is carpeted. BEDROOMS All bedrooms are carpeted. The bedroom has on the right hand side an en-suite cloakroom. BATHROOM Non slip flooring. Heated towel rail. Shower cubicle has a step (approximately six inches), wc and sink ADDITIONAL INFORMATION A baby’s cot and stair gates can be provided. Smoking is not allowed in any part of the holiday accommodation nor in the courtyard. Shared lock-up storage for bicycles. Property is light and airy. External PIR lighting to front of property and adjoining building. The property is serviced by a septic tank, so please ensure nothing other than toilet paper is flushed down the toilet. Please note that there is a well situated on the lawned area adjacent to the main courtyard. This well is for aesthetic purposes only and has a metal grid preventing access to the well. The telephone is for incoming calls only, but can be used for emergency calls – e.g. 999 calls.

We had a great time at Penlan. The house was really clean, warm and comfortable. It is unusual for us to think about going back to the same place but I'm sure we will be there again in the Spring, one year. Many thanks
