The day I had chosen to walk, the weather was calm, slightly hazy but dry and very mild.
I started my Pembrokeshire Coast Path walk from Stackpole Rocks, such a beautiful part of Pembrokeshire, with breathtaking views over the rugged clifftops down onto the not-so calm deep blue seas angrily bashing against the rocks below. Distant views of our beautiful coastline gave me the incentive to reach my destination and to witness what else I may see along the way.
I carried on my walk towards Castlemartin, past the military base where the guard room had two very impressive tanks on the entrance, which I'm sure would impress even the not-so military enthusiast.
The road ahead was very long and straight, following a walking route inland as the MOD were using the firing range and so the Coastal Path towards Freshwater West Beach had been closed to the public. On most days, the Coastal Path is open but it is always a good idea to check this before setting off if you're planning to walk this area. Telephone 01646 662367 (recorded message) or 01646 662496 (Range Officer) for further information. I can imagine the walk would be breathtaking here.
Although my route brought me along a not-too busy road, the views and wildlife I saw on the way were beautiful. I carried on at a steady pace and was lucky to find that the ground was fairly flat.
I came across a few road closures, due to the MOD firing on the range but was directed further along the road. I passed lots of cattle and sheep to say hello to along the way, giving me an excuse to take a few minutes break and have a few sips of water to refresh.
As I walked closer to Freshwater West, the breeze got a little more obvious, but at the same time very pleasant as it hit my warm cheeks.
Walking nearer to the bay, down the hill towards the beautiful breathtaking golden sandy beach of Freshwater West, I stopped and sat on the grassy bank and for a moment. I thought about how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful and stunning, unspoilt part of this world. I thought about how we should all be grateful for our wonderful life, and the real reason I had done this walk was to beat the horrible disease that so many friends and family have lost their lives to.
I finished my walk on the golden sand of Freshwater West, watching the many surfers out that day, riding the amazing white waves which this beach has a great reputation for.
Thank you, Pembrokeshire!
