Having been born and lived in Pembrokeshire my whole life, I am ashamed to say I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I have ventured onto the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
We arrived in Newgale to start our walk at 10am, parking in one of the 3 car parks available. The sea mist was very heavy and we were a little apprehensive as to how much we would be able to see on the walk. As we left Newgale and started climbing, the mist cleared and we had some wonderful views for the remainder of the walk.
Leaving Newgale Beach towards Rickets Head, the terrain is very hard and steep and required us to take our time, however the views made up for the steep climbs and the uneven ground we were covering. Once we arrived at the top of the headland, the walk became easier and we were able to take in our surroundings; we could see Nolton Haven in the distance. Passing through fields of sheep we were soon walking down towards the beach. Here we had a quick toilet stop, you momently leave the path to walk up the hill and join back on to the path behind the Chapel in Nolton Haven.
From Nolton Haven Beach, the path takes you round to the next cove and towards one of my favourite beaches in Pembrokeshire; Druidstone. Normally we would park up and take the short footpath down to the secluded beach, so to see it from the Coastal Path - it looked even more special. The tide was also out so you could see the full stretch of sand.
We passed by the ‘Teletubby’ house as it is known to locals, this is set into the cliffside and overlooks Druidstone Beach with the most amazing views and the well known Druidstone Hotel. Our walk continued up from the beach and back onto the top of the headland, from this point onwards the walk was much easier underfoot and there were even some concrete flat paths to follow.
In no time at all, we could see Broad Haven creeping closer and we started the downhill walk toward the beach. Our walk took us 2.5hrs, the first half of our walk would be best suited to more experienced walkers however from Druidstone onwards the path would be easily accessible for most.
We really enjoyed our walk and it was lovely to see some of our favourite beaches from above, I will definitely get out on the path more often to experience Pembrokeshire from a different viewpoint.
