Stay at Carreg Samson Holiday Home in Abercastle
Set right by the beach with fantastic sea views

Technically it all began across the road at Sea View, though most of us better remember the days at Carreg Samson, as there were only ever less than six staff at Sea View - including Daphne and Paul Pocock who first started the company.
Back in the early days, before we moved our headquarters to Haverfordwest, Carreg Samson in Abercastle was our home. Between 1986 and 1995, this prominent building set aside the sand shingle Abercastle Beach at Abercastle was the sole hub of Coastal Cottages. We hold many a fond memory of our time here and in the years to come, we’re sure you will do too.
For some time, Carreg Samson has been a highly sought-after holiday home and it’s no wonder. Set only ten paces from the beach, it is a must book for anyone planning the ultimate beachside escape.
Kitchen/diner
In recent months, this seaside stone cottage has undergone a remarkable transformation inside and now promises an even more spectacular stay for all who visit in the future. The characterful charm remains, with retained features such as exposed stone and restored ceiling beams. Step in the entrance where you’ll be greeted with quality slate flooring underfoot and you’ll find yourself in a newly converted upside-down house.
The ground floor is made up of four bedrooms, the furthermost seaward boasts a charming sea view, plus a family bathroom. It’s hard to believe that this very space was once bustling with activity from our reservations department.
One of the downstairs bedrooms
The real highlight of Carreg Samson’s new layout comes when you follow the open tread staircase to the first floor. As you approach the top of the stairs, you’ll immediately notice the large arched window dominating the far wall, providing awe-inspiring views across the entire bay and the rugged coastline which frames the shore. Stand here and watch families paddling in the waves below, walkers lacing up ready for a day on the Coast Path and adventurous souls making their way along the cliffs for a guided coasteering exercise.
The sea view from the upstairs lounge
The raised stance from this first-floor window allows you to bask in enviable breathtaking scenes and soak up the glorious vista like nowhere else. With the added feature of a Juliette balcony, this really is a magnificent spot to enjoy the Pembrokeshire coast.
Centred around the glazed wall is an open-plan living space complete with comfortable sofas and a modern fitted kitchen, a delightful area for evenings in with the whole family. Cook up a delicious feast, circle around a board game with snacks or chatter late into the evening as you gaze at the hypnotic water below. Neutral colours with blue hues decorate Carreg Samson throughout, reflecting the nautical location of the property.
When you’re not enjoying the views from inside, you’ll no doubt spend much of your time on the beach. Leisurely sea swims are a delight here, though keen anglers will not want to forget their bait and rods when visiting, you can frequently catch bass and wrasse in these waters. Join the Coast Path directly from outside the cottage and explore the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy and the hidden beach at Traeth Llyfn, or hike to Porthgain for lunch at The Sloop Inn.
Porthgain is just along the coast
St Davids lies just a few miles west and is the UK’s smallest city. It’s a bustling settlement known for activities, shopping, culture and history. Sightsee the Cathedral, tour the Bug Farm, sign up for surfing and shop for unique souvenirs.
