If you’re craving some seaside tranquillity, long coastal walks, or gatherings beside an open fire with a local ale in hand, then the charming coastal town of Fishguard awaits. This gorgeous quaint town is perched on a cliff top holding a treasure box of delights for nature lovers and explorers. Spectacular scenery and plenty of opportunities for walking and rambling are all to be found on your doorstep.

A visit to the old fort built in the 18th century, just a 1-mile walk from the town centre offers a relaxing stroll with some spectacular views. Here you can watch the ferries come in, or have a picnic surrounded by history. You’ll spot the canons, which can be found at the fortress. These cleverly formed the defence line that prevented the last invasion of Britain in 1797.
Once you’ve had your fill of clifftop views, a stop in at the town hall to marvel at the impressive 100ft Last Invasion Tapestry is well worth the visit. This impressive slice of history was designed and hand-woven by more than 80 local women on the invasion’s bicentenary to tell the story of the dramatic event. After you’ve delved into the history of Fishguard, head for a bite to eat at one of the many delicious eateries that this quaint town has to offer. Visit The Royal Oak on the Market Square, a coastal pub for the whole family to enjoy, serving food all year round. Or head to Goodwick Fish and Chips in Fishguard's neighbouring town for your favourite freshly prepared seaside meal.
With full bellies, wander towards Fishguard harbour. Here you’ll notice the boats gently swaying with the current. Sitting on the harbour wall is the perfect spot to enjoy the views and absorb the mellow atmosphere. If it’s a hot summer's day and you feel like getting on the water, try a paddleboard or surfing session from Board Games or head to Kayak-King for a tour outside the harbour exploring the north Pembrokeshire coastline.
If you’d prefer to stay on land, then jump on the Fflecsi Bus and head to Strumble Head. Here you’ll find the picturesque lighthouse that sits on a small island just off the coast. Take to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path for a fantastic walk with panoramic sea views. In autumn the pebbled beaches here play host to young seal pups that are easily visible from the path.
If you fancy trading in the coastal views for some greener terrain, the Preseli Hills are right on your doorstep from Fishguard. There are plenty of lovely walks to choose from in the Preselis, but the most famous is the Golden Road which is a 7-mile walk from Bwlch Gwynt to Foel Drygarn. This walk encompasses the highest point in the hills, as well as archaeological sites such as the burial site at Foel Feddau and two quarries where it’s suggested that the bluestones for Stonehenge came from.
