Which Beaches are Lifeguarded?

Lifeguards at Pembrokeshire Beaches

RNLI beach lifeguards are in place on the busiest of the Pembrokeshire beaches. From June, RNLI lifeguards will be back for the summer season at certain Pembrokeshire Beaches. RNLI lifeguards do daily safety patrols from 10am-6pm until the beginning of September and offer lifesaving water advice.

All RNLI lifeguards are fully trained to national standards as both lifeguards and first aiders, they are able to respond to emergency situations and assist the emergency services.

Amroth

Amroth Beach is a long, wide sandy beach, which, at low tide, is a mass expanse of sand for everyone to enjoy. This Blue Flag beach backs onto the village of Amroth where there are a number of facilities, including places to eat and drink and a decent-sized car park.

There are lifeguards on the beach in peak season every day from the beginning of July to the beginning of September.

Broad Haven

Broad Haven Beach is a broad (in the name), sandy beach that offers plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Along the water of this very popular beach, you’ll likely spot surfers on the water as well as families on the sand playing beach games and flying kites.

Coppet Hall

Coppet Hall Beach is a small pretty bay that joins together with Saundersfoot Beach to create a glorious expanse of sand, even at low tides. Popular with paddle boarders, there is a beach centre here where paddle boards and canoes can be hired.

Freshwater West

Freshwater West Beach is a very popular beach located on the southwest coast of Pembrokeshire. It offers huge swathes of sand and is well known for being one of the best beaches for surfing. The beach has exceptionally strong rip currents so is considered best for highly experienced surfers.

Newgale

Newgale Beach is one of the biggest and most popular beaches in Pembrokeshire. With a stunning two miles of sand, it’s a hit with every one of its visitors. This Blue Flag Beach is best recognised for its iconic high pebble bank separating the beach from the coastal village behind with its shop, cafe and pub.

Newgale Beach in Pembrokeshire

Newport Sands

Newport Sands is a long, curving soft sandy beach that meets the sea and the mouth of the river Nevern. The beach is large and open, with plenty of space for the usual seaside activities. During the summer months, there is a designated swimming area that is manned by lifeguards.

Newport Sands in Pembrokeshire

Nolton Haven

Nolton Haven is a small, shadow crescent of pebbles and sand, which reveals a longer sandy beach at low tide. The small sheltered cove stands between two high cliff sides in West Pembrokeshire and is often frequented by families and kayakers. There are currents off the beach so caution is advised.

Nolton Haven Beach in Pembrokeshire

Poppit Sands

The last beach before you meet Ceredigion on the north Pembrokeshire coast, Poppit Sands is a swirling area of soft sand backed by lush countryside. It makes a great choice for beachgoers, wildlife watchers and watersports enthusiasts.

Saundersfoot

Set on the south Pembrokeshire coastline between the popular seaside resort of Tenby and the shoreline village of Amroth, you will find Saundersfoot complete with its wide beach and beautiful golden sands. The beach lies alongside a harbour full of marine boats, but you’ll also find surfers and kitesurfers on the water when the waves are suitable.

Tenby Castle

Tenby Castle Beach is a charming stretch of sand between the Castle, St Catherine’s Island and the town itself. At low tide, the beach joins with South Beach to provide an enviable expanse of welcoming space for visitors. Ferries to Caldey Island also run from the beach at low tide.

Tenby North

One of the most iconic beaches in Wales, Tenby North Beach is an expanse of beautiful golden sands sandwiched between the impressive North Cliffs and Harbour Beach. Families flock to this beach on sunny days for beach games, sandcastle building, jet skiing, sea swimming and fishing off the harbour.

There are lifeguards on the beach in peak season every day from mid-June to the beginning of September.

Tenby North Beach in Pembrokeshire

Tenby South

Tenby South Beach is a 2-mile stretch of sand between Tenby and Penally. This beach is popular for leisurely activities such as bodyboarding and kayaking as the sea is generally very calm. It’s also a favourite with dog walkers as there are no restrictions during the summer months.

There are lifeguards on the beach in peak season every day from the end of May to the beginning of September.

Tenby South Beach in Pembrokeshire

Whitesands

Just two miles west of St Davids, you will find the stunning expanse of white sands that is Whitesands Beach. This spectacular beach is highly regarded as one of the best surfing beaches in the area. You’ll also notice a lot of people kayaking, windsurfing and bodyboarding.

There are lifeguards on the beach in peak season every day from the end of May to the beginning of September. Patrol hours also continue on weekends only from September to the end of October and every day over the October half term.
