A small seaside hamlet nestled between Amroth and Saundersfoot, Wisemans Bridge is connected to the surrounding areas along the Pembrokeshire coast by a series of paths and tunnels, all of which are ideal for walking and cycling and are easily accessible for wheelchair and disability scooter users.
Set in front of a pebble bank and covered with golden sand, the local beach is perfect for sunbathing, games and family picnics, and is within walking distance of our charming Wisemans Bridge holiday cottages. Due to its deep, rocky edging, the rock pooling here is also fabulous! This intriguing area is rich in marine life, and it’s not uncommon to discover crabs, shrimps, fish and sea anemones whilst you’re having fun exploring.
Wisemans Bridge is linked to nearby Saundersfoot by a series of three tunnels which were once used as railway paths for transporting coal out of the village. Whilst heading along this particularly tranquil section of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, watch out for the large cave entrances that can be seen before you reach the first tunnel, as these are now home to a number of protected bats. At one time, there were as many as 12 working collieries in and around Wisemans Bridge, amply demonstrating the extent of the area’s proud industrial heritage.
An additional point of interest is the fact that the hamlet’s rocky beach, which is just a short walk from our holiday cottages in Wisemans Bridge, was used in 1943 as a practice ground for the pivotal D-Day landings of the following year; the training drills were performed in front of Sir Winston Churchill himself.
