Christmas Holidays in Wales
Where to Go in Pembrokeshire this Winter

A Christmas cottage holiday in Pembrokeshire might not be hot days sunbathing on a beach but we can guarantee a wholesome holiday that makes you feel alive.
Winter is one of the quietest times to enjoy Pembrokeshire - you can often enjoy a walk on the beach without seeing a single soul. It’s the perfect place to spend a Christmas gathering with loved ones without the hustle and bustle that summer months and hot weather bring.
At Coastal Cottages, our properties are picked with all seasons in mind. The hidden gems that have beautiful outdoor spaces for outdoor dining and barbecues, turn into cosy havens in the colder months. Log-burning fires and comfy sofas await after spending a chilly day exploring the area.
Here are some of our favourite cottage holidays that are available for Christmas week this year:
19 St Brides Bay in Broad Haven
Overlooking the beautiful shoreline of Broad Haven Beach, 19 St Brides Bay is a wonderful first-floor apartment set just moments away from the sand. As far as beachside holiday lets with sea views go, this one is easily one of the best around.
Welcoming families of up to 6, this modern accommodation boasts a large bay window in the open-plan living space, with incredible sea views. For a real treat, you could head to Broad Haven early so that you don’t miss out on the popular Xmas Pudding Charity Fun Run. The event, which takes place right on the beach, is in aid of charity and sees hundreds, mainly in fancy dress, get together and brave the run in the cold weather. All participants receive a Christmas pudding but it’s a fantastic event whether taking part or just supporting.
After spending your days exploring the area, you can retire to the master bedroom where you can fall asleep looking out over the lapping water and ever-changing seascape.
Greystones House in St Davids
There’s always so much to see and do during a city break and that’s no different when you stay in St Davids over Christmas, even if it is the smallest city in the UK.
Picture a Grade II listed house, built from the same stone as the cathedral, nestled down a street off Cross Square. With not one but two reception rooms, both with wood burners, Greystones House is the perfect choice for a family with children to keep all the wrapping paper mess confined to one room! There’s a handy utility room and a lovely enclosed garden with a sheltered terrace which is ideal if you plan on bringing the dog for your Christmas break too.
Choose Greystones House to be right in the heart of the festive action, just moments away from the centre and the magnificent Cathedral. The Cathedral is incredibly atmospheric at any time of year but nothing beats The Midnight Mass and Crib Service on Christmas Eve.
The Rocket Carthouse in Angle
On the outskirts of Angle stands The Rocket Carthouse, a distinct-looking holiday home with a fascinating past life. Originally built towards the end of the 19th century, this property is now a characterful cottage suitable for up to 4 but was once the Coastguard watchtower for the area.
You’ll find an inviting open-plan living space downstairs with bespoke flooring, comfortable furniture and a terrific window seat offering views out towards the waterway. Open-tread stairs lead to the first floor and enjoy the panoramic views across Angle and out towards Freshwater West Beach, just over half a mile away.
Enjoy spending your Christmas holiday in this secluded spot of West Wales, the perfect place and time of year to explore the surrounding area by foot by taking to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path for dog walks each cold crisp morning.
The Boathouse in St Dogmaels
Set in one of the most picturesque locations in Pembrokeshire, on the banks of the River Teifi, is The Boathouse. This sublime petite holiday cottage welcomes parties of up to two plus a dog. Ideal for romantic getaways, solo adventurers and dog-friendly holidays, with amenities and activities just a walk away.
Standing right on the water’s edge, this riverside property boasts spectacular views across the Teifi with a waterside trail running beside it so you can easily access the wider area of St Dogmaels. Within walking distance is a convenience store but you may wish to venture across the water into Cardigan for further shops and restaurants that are open around Christmas Day.
On Christmas morning at The Boathouse you can cosy up in the open-plan living space with the woodburner roaring while enjoying the stunning views through the French doors.
Castle View in Carew Newton
Comfortably sleeping 4 with 1 dog, Castle View is a terrific spot for a Christmas family getaway with the little ones. This stone cottage is centrally located meaning many of Pembrokeshire’s most beloved attractions are within a short drive.
A brief country lane stroll brings you out on the circular walk around Carew Castle and Millpond where you’ll be met with a trail of twinkling lights leading you along the path to the main entrance dressed for Christmas. The enchanting and colourful light display and beautiful Christmas tree create a magical garden for all the family. The elf trail around the castle and gardens will keep the children busy whilst you warm yourself up with a cup of hot chocolate from the cafe and enjoy the festive magic.
Tenby and Saundersfoot are both a short drive away from Castle View and both have even more festive activities to enjoy!
