What to Do in Llanfallteg

The picturesque village of Llanfallteg has a strong local community and regularly holds social events, there is a small village pub within walking distance in the village serving food, as well as a children’s play park. We’ve listed some of our favourite things to do in the area for your holiday.

Delve into History

A trip to Llawhaden Castle during your stay is a must. This lovely little find is a fortified Bishop's Palace rather than a Castle and is impressively located on high ground overlooking The Vale of the Eastern Cleddau. You’ll notice it’s very castle-like in appearance but would have been a grand residence rather than a functional fortification. What remains of the castle is eerily beautiful set in picturesque rolling countryside. You’ll get a real feel for how the castle must have been in its heyday and the best bit, it’s free to visit!

Try Something New

Located at the foothills of the Preseli Mountains, Llys-y-Frân occupies an impressive 350 acres of woodland and grassland, with a stunning lake at its core. The reservoir was opened in 1972 to supply clean water to Pembrokeshire. Open all year round, there’s a whole range of activities on land and water. The perfect spot for walking, cycling, fishing and much more.

On the water, visitors can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and pedal boarding. There are also organised open water swimming sessions during the summer season. On land, there’s an exciting range of activities for all ages and abilities. This includes axe throwing, archery and climbing.

With over 14 km of bike trails to explore, Llys-y-Frân is one of the best places to get on your bike in Pembrokeshire. With purpose-built mountain biking trails, a pump track and a pump skills area, it is a hotspot for cycling enthusiasts. Buttercup Cottage and Daisy Cottage share storage for bikes and a hose to wash off your gear, ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities or cycling the lanes nearby.

Go Llama Trekking

Pembrokeshire Llamas is a small family-run business that is famous for its guided llama walks and trekking expeditions. You’ll enjoy taking selfies with the llamas whilst walking around the valley in a safe and fun environment.

Lead one of the llamas on a guided tour through the wooded valley, following the zigzagging path next to one of Pembrokeshire’s main rivers – the Cleddau. Discover the beauty and stories of the valley, whilst walking next to your relaxing furry friend who will be by your side every step of the way. It’s sure to be the highlight of your holiday!

Walk the Area

Amroth Beach

Conveniently situated, both cottages are located in the perfect hidden spot from which to explore all that both the counties of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire have to offer. The stunning coastline is deceptively close with Amroth being the nearest beach. Enjoy some family time on this long sandy beach, and take to the national Coastal Path to really appreciate the beauty of it on foot. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants on the seafront offering refreshments overlooking the water, while the popular seaside hubs of Saundersfoot and Tenby are a little further on.

Explore an Award-Winning Town

Narberth

The independent spirit has always remained constant in the small Welsh town of Narberth. Being just 15 minutes away, a visit to this effervescent little place with its robust sense of community is a must. Narberth has a thriving high street packed with independent shops and cafes, and a full calendar of events. The town also sits on the fringes of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park that stretches inland along the banks of the River Cleddau. So when you’d like to step away from the bustle, there are quiet footpaths to follow through meadows and woodland; not to mention the gorgeous Pembrokeshire coastline within easy reach.
