Pembrokeshire Dog Walk: Stepaside to Saundersfoot
Cockapoo Dolly’s leisurely Sunday stroll
A daily Pembrokeshire dog walk is the perfect start to the day, particularly if it takes on a route along a stunning sandy beach with sea views for miles. That's exactly what you get on this path along the old coal railway route between Stepaside and Saundersfoot. As a bonus, this walkway is level meaning it is accessible for all.
Set in an area steeped in rich history, this coastal region was once a hive of activity for the coal industry. Since then, the landscape has bloomed with wildlife and the old railway track is now a great footpath for walkers, dogs and cyclists. Follow the route through cliffside tunnels, woodland and along the beaches. Dolly loves discovering cubby holes in the woodlands and leaping onto the beach.
Sightsee the old Ironworks buildings in Stepaside before turning right to follow the railway route. You will then meet woodlands at Pleasant Valley, beautiful no matter what time of year but particularly wonderful in spring with its blossoming plants. Continue down a lane towards Wisemans Bridge where Dolly spots the first sandy shore. Follow the second tunnel towards the beach at Coppett Hall, where you will then find a third tunnel taking you to Saundersfoot. Spend a couple of hours here playing on the beach, stop off for lunch somewhere or grab a doggie ice cream from Periwinkle Tearoom just a short walk from the beach.
Suitable for: Accessible to all including wheelchairs, prams and pooches.
Distance: 2.5 miles
