Pembrokeshire Dog Walk: Tenby to Lydstep
Mogul the Jack Russell’s beloved home turf
Take advantage of the amazing Wales Coast Path with this wonderful Pembrokeshire dog walk cliffside walk between Tenby and Lydstep. Make sure to bring along a camera as the vista here is truly breathtaking with views out over the bay and Caldey Island.
Combining sandy shores, rocky outcrops and incredible sea views, it’s no wonder that Mogul loves to get out and about on this southern stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Some sections can be steep though – great for burning off energy for a dog like Mogul, but can be tiresome for us two-legged beings with less enthusiasm!
This trail starts off in the popular seaside resort of Tenby making it ideal for anyone based in this cobbled town. Begin at Tenby South Beach, where a quick paddle in the waves before meeting the coastal path is a must – although be warned, pooches like Mogul may take some persuading to move away from the water! Follow the pebbly path up the hill following signs for the Coastal Path. You’ll venture along grassy hilltops, sandy tracks and up steps before reaching Giltar Point. No doubt you’ll want to stop here for a picture opportunity as views can stretch as far as Mumbles.
From here you’ll follow the path through Penally Firing Range and beyond to the headland where you may find ponies and wild sheep; leads on for these areas. Continue along the narrow path (and up some steps) until you reach Lydstep. Stop off here for refreshments, catch the bus back to Tenby or continue walking to extend your hike along the Coastal Path.
Suitable for: Agile canines and Coastal Path enthusiasts
Distance: 6 miles
