Discover Amroth

A busy village that is a brilliant destination whatever your needs.

Holiday Cottages in Amroth

Amroth is a small village perched on a half-mile long stretch of beach, at the start (or end!) of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. With its traditional seaside shops, cafes and pubs it is a busy village that is a brilliant destination whatever your needs. The access to the coast path is perfect for walking couples or singles, while families can spend days playing on the beach. Saundersfoot is a 3-mile coast path walk away, or along the beach at low tide with Tenby a bit further along the coast, meaning that there’s plenty to entertain on cooler days. Here’s the low down on some places in Amroth worth a visit.

Smugglers Bar & Grill is right across the road from the beach. What was once The Old Cartwheel has been transformed into a themed family restaurant, and they really have committed to the theme. For example, just a few of the features include an artificial campfire, a prison cage, a 2-story pirate, a pirate ship moored to a jetty featuring a slide, wheel, mast, and sail fort, a shipwreck covered in climb nets, a crow’s nest and rope bridge. It’s obviously great for kids, but the food is good enough that a couple would have an enjoyable meal there, provided you don’t mind excited kids! It’s a great atmosphere, and worth a visit.

The Amroth Arms is certainly a pub with a view! Also set across the road from the beach, it’s recently been refurbished and has a lovely atmosphere. They offer home-cooked lunches and evening meals and are a great place to watch a game with a pint. There’s no better place to sit outside with a drink in hand looking out over the beach. They also welcome dogs!

Amroth Beach Pembrokeshire

A short walk takes you to Wiseman’s Bridge, home to another lovely beach that is great for rock pooling. Wiseman’s Bridge Inn sits just above the beach giving spectacular views. Serving good quality pub grub it’s a brilliant place to spend some time. I went recently with a couple of friends for lunch, and it was packed on a Tuesday afternoon out of season, which maybe tells you all you need to know! The portions are more than generous, and it’s perfect no-fuss food. Wiseman’s Bridge has some lovely woodland walks starting from it, as well as of course the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast path.

Amroth has more to offer than places to eat and watch the sea, it’s also bursting with historical reminders. At exceptionally low tide, you may still come across the fossilised forest on Amroth Beach, eradicated when sea levels soared over 7000 years ago. Petrified antlers, animal bones and Neolithic weapons and flints have also been spotted. Saundersfoot is a 3 mile coast path walk away, or along the beach at low tide, with Tenby a bit further along the coast, meaning that there’s plenty to entertain if you manage to get tired of beach days! Colby Woodland Gardens are less than a 2-mile walk away through a beautiful wooded valley, the gardens are home to a host of wildlife including bats, dippers, otters and butterflies. A fabulous place to spend a day, take a picnic and chill out with a book while the kids build dens and play on rope swings. Dogs on leads are allowed in the gardens.

Amroth and the surrounding area really has something for everyone, and adults and children alike will love a holiday here.
