About Lantern Cottage

Lantern Cottage is a delightful stone cottage, an end terrace of 3 in the heart of the picturesque village of Lower Solva, set on the bank of the stream and only yards from the pretty harbour and the sea. This traditional cottage retains its original character with beams, exposed stone walls, and wooden floors, comfortably furnished in an eclectic mix of contemporary and antique pieces.

A pathway from the parking space leads to the front of Lantern Cottage and gives pedestrians access to the other 2 cottages in the terrace. The glazed porch opens into the dining room with its farmhouse table and wood burning stove, the compact galley-style kitchen has been thoughtfully designed to maximise the space. There is a second wood burning stove in the sitting room, perfect for cosying up on those chillier evenings. From the dining room, a half flight of open tread stairs lead to a shower room, while the open tread stairs continue up to the 3 bedrooms nestling in the eaves and a further bathroom all with beams, wooden floors and traditional panelling. The 2 double bedrooms offer super views over the garden to the stream and wooded valley side, but mind your head there are some low beams. The lawned garden over the lane is a beautiful spot leading down to the banks of the stream, dine alfresco on the patio or enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the water. You are guaranteed to relax while you listen to the birdsong, the stream bubbling over the stones on its way to the sea and the wind in the trees. The bird and wildlife will amaze.

Keen kayakers and people who enjoy just messing around on the water will be in their element. Perfect for keen walkers, footpaths abound. Head up the valley to Solva Woollen Mill, well worth a visit, or a few minutes’ walk will take you to the harbour of Solva with its sandy beach at low tide. Children will enjoy crabbing off the harbour wall and there is a fine selection of shops, pubs and restaurants to sample, all on your doorstep. Take to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to explore this stunning coastline on foot, take advantage of the Puffin Shuttle for the return journey. The wonderful long sandy beach of Newgale should not be missed, popular with families and water sport enthusiasts, there is even a hire shop for equipment. To the west lies the popular tiny City of St Davids with its range of facilities, majestic Cathedral and Bishops Palace. There are a host of beautiful beaches to explore nearby, including the famous Whitesands Beach.

Once you have arrived, you can leave your car behind and enjoy a slower pace to life, Lantern Cottage is a charming holiday home whatever the season.

Care needed as there are drops from the garden to the stream.

No cot and highchair provided, you are welcome to bring your own.

We had a perfect stay at Lantern Cottage. Solva is picturesque with some lovely shops. There are several places to eat, but we particularly enjoyed the pub 2 mins walk from the cottage. We went kayaking in the harbour, this was superb. We found the local people very friendly and enjoyed visiting local beauty spots as well as walking on the clean sandy beaches and around the bay. This was all within a few minutes walk of Lantern Cottage! Lantern Cottage is snug and has a very warm feeling to it, there is parking for one car on site with extra parking opposite. The accommodation was very comfortable, and the addition of wood burning stoves made the evenings cosy and relaxing. We had breakfast in the garden overlooking the stream to a chorus of birdsong which was heavenly. The cottage is so beautiful it is definitely on our yearly visit list.

I stayed in Lantern Cottage for a weekend and loved it! The cottage is beautiful, very clean and has a lovely and cosy family vibe. The location is great, walking distance to the harbour, costal footpaths and local pubs and only a short drive away from St David’s. This is a lovely place for a break from the city, I’d definitely go back!

We enjoyed our stay at Lantern Cottage. The location, particularly being so close to the harbour, is great. It was the ideal base for exploring the area- walking, cycling and kayaking for us. Solva is very pretty and was quiet and peaceful. We ate twice at the pub just across the road. The food and service were good. We were lucky with the weather and a particular highlight was having breakfast most days at the end of the garden next to the stream. The accommodation was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing break for the five of us.

We have stayed in Lantern Cottage twice now and have really enjoyed our stays. The cottage is comfortable and really well equipped and easily accommodated our family of 6. We really enjoyed the lovely garden overlooking the stream as well as cosy evenings indoors. It is in a brilliant base for exploring the wonderful beaches and coastline of Pembrokeshire and there is plenty of good food available, across the road at the local pub and further afield. We have re-booked a return visit this summer.

What a perfect trip to Lantern Cottage! This will now be an annual trip! The cottage is absolutely delightful. From the cosy fire in the evenings to the wonderful garden with it’s very own babbling brook- perfect for morning coffees and evening wine – we couldn’t have asked for a better week away. It is within walking distance to a secluded beach, and a much longer walk to a local farm which makes its own delicious ice-cream – worth the cliff walk! I have to recommend the local pub which is one minute walk away. If you’re looking for a retreat, this beautiful welsh cottage ticks all the boxes. Check-in was really easy and has very comfy beds – didn’t want to leave!
