When planning a coastal holiday, choosing accommodation within walking distance of the beach has to be the biggest and best treat you can give yourself. There’s no better feeling than waking up to warm sunshine and padding your way down a path straight onto the beach. Here are some of our favourite beach holiday cottages in Pembrokeshire at Coastal Cottages.

Bwthyn Gerrig

Just a 10-minute walk from the beach and Pembrokeshire Coastal Path set on the lane to Abereiddy is the delightful traditional stone cottage Bwthyn Gerrig.

Having been sympathetically renovated throughout, the cottage retains many of its original features and character including the exposed stone walls and A-frame beams. Enjoy the sunny living room with its French doors that open out to the enclosed garden. This sheltered spot with its lawn and paved patio is great for dining outside with the family on a summer's evening whilst enjoying the late sunsets. When the morning sun wakes you up, sit on the bench to the side of the cottage with a cup of tea where you can admire the views out to Strumble Head.

If you can peel yourself away from this cosy cottage, keen walkers will feel at home outdoors with footpaths abounding. The picturesque beach of Abereiddy is next to the Blue Lagoon, famous for the Red Bull World Cliff Diving Championship. The beautiful, secluded beach at Traeth Llyfn is a short walk away. This area is great for watersports enthusiasts and kayakers, while nature lovers and birdwatchers will be charmed by the regular sightings of seal pups in the autumn and the varied seabird population. Once you’re done for the day exploring, head back to the cottage where you can easily wash your wetsuits with the outside tap.

Whitesands Beach

Take to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to explore this stunning rugged coastline on foot. Head north along the coast to Porthgain with its popular pub, restaurant and art gallery, or further on lies Trefin with Aberfelin Beach below and the nearby fishing village of Abercastle where the harbour is still used by local fishermen. To the west of Bwthyn Gerrig lies the famous beach of Whitesands, loved by families but also surfers, both professionals and beginners alike. A visit to the tiny city of St Davids just a 10-minute drive away is a must, with its excellent selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as its majestic Cathedral and Bishops Palace both steeped in history.

Valley View

Little Haven | Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms

On the outskirts of Little Haven, just a short walk away from all the village facilities and its picturesque cove is Valley View. Set on the side of this pretty valley, away from the hustle and bustle, this stunning holiday cottage offers superb views across woodland where the bird and wildlife will enchant.

Enter its spacious hallway and you’ll be pleased to find a beautifully furnished home with a newly fitted modern kitchen that is sure to delight when preparing meals. Enjoy the views overlooking the wooded valley and enjoy the light sunny conservatory giving additional space to relax. When the sun’s out, you can dine outdoors on the decked terrace that runs along the length of the cottage. A perfect spot to listen to the birds singing while soaking up the spectacular views.

An easy downhill walk will take you to the selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes in the village of Little Haven. Here you can spend your days on the beach exploring the rock pools of this scenic cove, all within walking distance from Valley View. The sheltered beach of Little Haven is popular with swimmers, kayakers and sailing enthusiasts. 

Little Haven

If you’d rather stay on land, enjoy rambling the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path passing not far from your front door. Walk over the headland, or at low tide along the water’s edge, to Broad Haven and its long sandy beach, popular with families. In the opposite direction, you’ll find St Brides, Marloes Sands and the Dale Peninsula. 

Perfect for all seasons, Valley View benefits from a new shower room, bathroom and cloakroom providing ample facilities and the boiler room is perfect for drying wet weather and water sports gear. Once you arrive you will never want to leave this stunning and quality holiday cottage.

Ty Gwyn

Newport | Sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms

Once you arrive at Ty Gwyn in the small bustling town of Newport, be prepared to enjoy a slower pace of life. This traditional-style cottage is set on a quiet close with facilities just a short 5-minute walk away. You’ll appreciate how close the beach is during your stay with the views out to sea from the main bedroom.

Significant to the boating community, take a visit to the picturesque Parrog less than 1 mile away with its beach and rock pools waiting to be explored. The curved bay is always speckled with mooring boats nodding in the water as well as kayakers and canoeists jumping into their vessels, and paddling out onto the waves. 

Or you could spend your days on the gorgeous Newport Sands Beach, popular with families which can be reached via the riverside footpath or by car. This broad, long beach can be found at the mouth of the River Nevern. Bird and wildlife enthusiasts will be enthralled. Community spirit is strong in Newport with close links to the sea, the sheltered estuary is ideal for sailing and water lovers. This dune-backed, sandy beach is plenty big enough for all your beach activities and at low tide, you can wade across the river back to Newport Parrog. 

Newport

Walkers can take to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to appreciate this stunning rugged coastline. A popular circular walk is around Dinas Island, taking in the picturesque sandy coves of Pwllgwaelod and Cwm Yr Eglwys. Alternatively, head inland up Carningli Mountain of Angels, it is well worth the effort and the views are breathtaking. 

Historians will enjoy exploring Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber and Castell Henllys, while golfers should try the Newport Sands Golf Course, with its beachside location. You don’t want to miss the views from the course, it’s truly spectacular.

Little Mead

Little Mead is the lovely old fisherman's cottage based just yards from the seafront at Amroth. This popular seaside village with its half-mile stretch of soft, sandy beach is an ideal location to use as a base for exploring South Pembrokeshire. Being a quieter alternative to the popular harbour town of Tenby, which is just a short drive away, Amroth is sure to please the family for your summer holiday. Walk down to the beach to play a game of rounders with the family or spend hours of fun rock pooling at the western end of the beach. Amroth Beach boasts golden sands and a Blue Flag award, making it a popular destination for both visitors and locals alike. Boasting three pubs and a selection of cafes all with stunning sea views, you’ll never want to leave.

A short walk takes you to Wiseman’s Bridge, home to another lovely beach that is great for exploring. You’ll notice the popular Wiseman’s Bridge Inn sits just above the beach giving spectacular views. From here, you can continue your walk over to the popular village of Saundersfoot through the cliff tunnels past Coppet Hall where there are more pubs and restaurants to try.

Little Mead is a great base for a family holiday. Popular attractions such as Manor House Wildlife Park, Folly Farm and Heatherton World of Activities are all within easy reach by car serving great days out for children to enjoy. You can’t leave without visiting the delightful Colby Woodland Garden just half a mile walk from the cottage. 

Amroth and the surrounding area have something for everyone, adults and children alike will love a holiday here. You’ll never want to leave!

Blackberry Cottage

Blackberry Cottage is a superb traditional stone cottage with a modern twist. Set in the heart of Upper Solva above its picturesque harbour it is just yards from the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

Nestled in the eaves are the first-floor bedrooms while from the landing, you’ll discover a walk-through reading nook with a cosy armchair perfect for snuggling up on cooler nights. Spend time relaxing in the main living room with its woodburning fire in front of the large spectacular windows. Patio doors open to the enclosed, rear lawned garden where you can dine alfresco on a summer’s day soaking up the views over the fields and rooftops.

A short downhill walk will take you to Lower Solva with its selection of pubs and eateries serving delicious food, as well as a range of shops and galleries. The sheltered sandy-bottomed harbour is perfect for wild swimmers, sailing enthusiasts and keen kayakers, while children will especially enjoy crabbing off the harbour wall.

Solva

A short drive will take you to the wonderful city of St Davids with its majestic Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. Here you’ll find a good selection of local shops, pubs, cafes and galleries to explore. Take a boat trip from St Justinian’s either around the islands or land on Ramsey Island. Here the bird and wildlife will amaze, especially in September during seal pupping season.

Beach fans, paddleboarders, canoeists or surfers can head east to the stunning Newgale Beach or west to the sandy Whitesands Beach. Both beaches offer equipment rental, watersport instruction and many dining options.

Whatever time of year, Blackberry Cottage is a wonderful holiday home for families with children to enjoy or even just a couple wanting a restful holiday in Pembrokeshire.

Windswept

Within just 250m of the glorious, sandy Broad Haven Beach is Windswept. This modern marina-style house is well-presented and comfortably furnished throughout. Being so close to the large nearby town of Haverfordwest and all of its amenities, Broad Haven is an ideal seaside location for a fabulously traditional British holiday.

There is a hire shop in the village as well as a pub, and the Ocean Bar cafe and restaurant comes highly recommended with their perfect location overlooking the beach. 

Broad Haven

The cliffs on both sides provide some sheltered bays. At low tide, you can wander around the headland on the south side into another bay called The Settlands. If you keep going, a walk around the next headland will take you to the picturesque Little Haven. This quaint old fishing village is popular with families during the summer months so well worth a visit during your stay. Take to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path that runs through Broad Haven to explore this glorious coastline even more.

The village itself is completely at sea level, meaning that long and unspoilt views of the bay and surrounding off-shore islands are guaranteed. The community is well looked after, with plenty of local shops, pubs and restaurants to choose from. 

Spend your days on the beach, popular with families and surfers alike. Being central to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park makes Windswept the ideal holiday cottage for both couples and families wanting to explore and relax.
