Haverfordwest Race Course: A Dog Friendly Walk

Explore Haverfordwest's racecourse with your dog

Haverfordwest Race Course is a dog-friendly walk in Pembrokeshire suitable for all dog breeds. It is mostly flat, but there are some gentle slopes that give plenty of exercise for both you and your dog.

The Route

To begin your stroll, go through the Race Course gates and walk across the meadow. Once you reach the top of the slope, it naturally bends left, revealing a great view across the north straight. This leads you to the B4327 again, where you need to cross the road. This road can be busy, so ensure you take care. Through a gate, head into the south part of the Race Course, passing through woodland.

Upon reaching this section of the walk, you can choose a shortcut continuing around the Race Course, taking you back to the Cricket Club or you can turn right through a kissing gate in the hedge for a longer route. If you do choose the longer walk, the pathway through kissing gate in the hedge will lead you to a tarmac road which you need to cross. You'll then pass through another kissing gate taking you through a shaded lane which then gradually descends into the valley. This lane continue for some time until you reach a tree growing in the path where you will need to turn left here over a bank.

Continue walking along the path alongside a pretty stream, keeping it always to your right. You will come to a stile leading you to a corner of a field and to your right, another stile which takes you to continue alongside the stream. Soon enough, you'll come to a tarmac road where you should turn left. The route here ascends quite rapidly.

At the T-junction, turn left once again and follow this road uphill. Upon reaching the top, you will reach another T-junction where you will spot the kissing gate you passed through earlier. Pass through this kissing gate to follow the route back to the Race Course and turn right. Follow the natural curve of the pathway and walk up the final straight stretch of grass, keeping the hedge on your right-hand side. At the end here, through the gate, you will reach the car park where you started.
