Here at Coastal Cottages, we're a team of dog owners so you can trust us when we say we know a thing or two about great dog walks in the area. We're out and about daily with our furry best friends and over time, we've learnt a lot about the places our canines love to explore.
To help steer you in the right direction, you'll find a selection of our dogs' favourite walks in Pembrokeshire so no matter where you're staying in the region, there's sure to be one nearby you can try.
Tenby Town
If you're planning a dog friendly holiday to Tenby, this town walk will likely become your regular route for your morning wander. Head out from your holiday cottage into town where you can pick up fresh bread and a daily paper, making the most of those stunning sea views from the promenades overlooking the beaches in this popular resort.
It's our dog Sandy's favourite and is a great choice all year round - just make sure to be aware of the restrictions on the beaches during the summer months.
Stepaside to Saundersfoot
Dolly the cockapoo adores the pretty landscape of this level-pathed route along the coast and through the old railway tunnels, there's simply no better way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. Taking you through the woodlands towards the sandy shore of Saundersfoot, there are plenty of opportunities for discovering nature and cubby holes.
Make a day of it and call into one of the dog friendly pubs in Saundersfoot for lunch or a pint, or take a seat on one of the benches overlooking the golden sand with an ice cream. The Periwinkle Tearoom behind the seafront even offers doggie ice cream if you want to treat your pup!
St Davids Head
The uphill hike to the summit of Carn Llidi is a popular one whether you're walking with a dog or not, and it's extremely easy to see why as the views from the top are pretty special. Think panoramic scenes over Whitesands beach below, round to St Davids and out across the sea towards Ramsey Island.
Reggie the springer spaniel adores this route as it winds up the hillside into the clouds, working off lots of his energy. This is a particularly suitable choice for those canines who need plenty of exercise as it can easily be extended by joining the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and continuing around the landscape.
Treffgarne Rock
A wonderful change to those already listed, you'll find Treffgarne Rock further inland in almost the centre of the county. Located off the main road between Haverfordwest and Fishguard, this countryside pathway takes you to a high point promising views across much of the region.
It's a lesser-travelled path than the likes of the seaside towns and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path but don't let that fool you into thinking the views are any less rewarding. Rolling green hills and a peaceful setting make this Cabbage the cockapoo's all-time fave.
Garron Pill to Lawrenny
This choice is another one you'll have to venture further into the heart of Pembrokeshire for, but you may be surprised to find parts of this walk take you along a hidden waterway. The waterside village of Lawrenny lies on the banks of the Cleddau estuary so expect lots of calming still water scenes and plenty of wildlife.
Dachshund Stanley loves this walk in winter as it can get a bit muddy, so make sure to remember your wellies or walking boots if you're planning to explore this route.
