Planning a trip to Pembrokeshire this February Half Term, May Half Term or October Half Term? You’ve made a great decision! There’s a world of entertainment waiting in West Wales guaranteeing plenty of opportunities to keep the kids occupied all week long.

If you need half term ideas for Pembrokeshire, look no further; this guide to Pembrokeshire activities for half term has something for everyone. Many of these attractions and things to do are open most of the year meaning they are great choices whichever half term you choose to make your way west - or any other time of the year!

Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo

No half term in Pembrokeshire is complete without a visit to West Wales’ top zoo. Folly Farm is a firm favourite for all with an array of farmyard and exotic zoo animals. Expect pigs, goats, chickens, monkeys, giraffes, lions and penguins at this great attraction near Saundersfoot.

There is also an outdoor adventure playground, a café, a restaurant and plenty of picnic spots if you want to bring along your own snacks. The indoor vintage funfair makes this one top of the list for popular rainy-day half-term activity ideas in Pembrokeshire. You can easily spend a whole day here but beware, you may have to drag the little ones away when you want to go home!

Llys Y Fran Country Park & Reservoir

Having undergone a significant transformation, Llys Y Fran near the Preseli Hills reopened to the public in 2021 having been closed for several years and is now a hotspot for activity. Easily one of the best free half term activities in Pembrokeshire, you can enter this attraction for free and enjoy the Llys Y Fran circular walk around the park enjoying views across the reservoir. The woodland route here is 6.5 miles long with plenty of picnic stops and a free outdoor playground providing hours of fun for children.

Adventurous cyclists can bring along their own bikes to tour almost 9 miles of cycle trails whilst mountain bikers can explore the free Pump Skills Area. There’s even a Bike Hub and Repair Shop onsite too.

This impressive 212-acre reservoir is situated amongst 350 acres of countryside which also houses a visitor centre and café plus various outdoors activities (charges apply) including kayaking, paddleboarding, a climbing wall, archery and axe throwing.

If you’re in need of things to do with the whole family this half term in Pembrokeshire, Llys Y Fryn is a brilliant choice as even dogs are welcome. Keep your four-legged pals on leads at all times as there’s lots of wildlife to be found here but if you are keen to let your pup off it’s leash, then the Dog Agility Area (free) is the place to do so.

The National Botanic Garden of Wales

The National Botanic Garden of Wales in Carmarthen is open 363 days a year (closed Christmas Eve/Christmas Day) making it a great option nearly all year round. There is plenty to explore with a Butterfly House, a Fungi Exhibition, a Great Glasshouse, an Ice Garden and a Bee Garden. You can also pay a visit to the Science Centre, gallery, children’s play area and garden centre.

The Garden is well-known for hosting various special events throughout the year including food festivals, classic car runs, Christmas fairs and more plus there are designated Doggy Days if you want to bring along your furry friend for a day out the whole family can enjoy.

The Bug Farm

For those who love small creatures and creepy crawlies, The Bug Farm outside St Davids is the place to go. Dr Sarah Beynon has developed a unique world of all things bugs at this exciting attraction onsite at a working farm. If your New Year’s resolution consists of trying new things this year, you’ll want to factor in a day out here during your Pembrokeshire February Half Term.

At The Bug Farm, also a Scientific Research Centre, you can discover a range of bugs and insects; there’s even a chance to get up close with handling sessions available to book. Stroll the Bug Farm Trail, explore the Tropical Bug Zoo, venture to the Bug Museum or attend one of the various workshops and lectures to learn more.

Finish your day off with a memorable visit to The Grub Kitchen where you can test your bravery and sample some edible bugs with their one-of-a-kind menu. Will you be able to brave a critter cookie or a bug burger? Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcomed.

Castell Henllys

Nestled in the north of Pembrokeshire near Newport is Castell Henllys, an extraordinary day out for anyone particularly those with an interest in history. Set in a beautiful 26 acres of woodland bursting with wildlife, this reconstructed Iron Age Hill Fort is built on excavated remains from over two thousand years ago.

Most impressive are the three large replica roundhouses which make for an unforgettable sight. Check out the many informative panels and interactive exhibitions to learn all about Iron Age life and the site’s history. There’s also a visitor centre and café plus a play area, maze and picnic sites throughout the site providing plenty of breakout spaces for visitors.

Spending a day at Castell Henllys is one of our favourite activities for October Half Term in Pembrokeshire, as they often host fireside storytelling and special Samhain events around Halloween.

Pembroke Castle

Another great choice during October Half Term in Pembrokeshire is Pembroke Castle, as they tend to host ghost tours though you can likely expect family fun days no matter which of the school holidays you’re in the area for.

Alongside any special events, you can tour the castle set in the centre of Pembroke to learn all about how King Henry VII was born here via exhibitions and displays. Test your knowledge of Pembrokeshire on the large floor map, grab a bite to eat in the cafe or venture to the top of the castle walls for impressive views across the town. Make sure to pop into the gift shop on your way out for sweet souvenirs of your visit.

The Welsh Wildlife Centre

The Welsh Wildlife Centre near Cardigan is always one of our top recommendations for free half term activities in Pembrokeshire as entry to the reserve and the visitor centre is completely free. Note, there is a small charge for parking unless you are a member or a local resident (see website for details).

Ideal for inquisitive minds, slower-paced days out and wildlife watchers; this north Pembrokeshire attraction offers four themed nature trails, an Interpretation Centre, two play areas (one indoors and one outdoors), a gift shop and a cafe. Sightsee a mixture of wildlife including wildfowl, otters, dragonflies, warblers, mallards, peregrines and much more.

Excluding the Christmas holidays, The Welsh Wildlife Centre is open five days a week all year round and well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. Our favourite time of year to visit is during the Pembrokeshire May Half Term, when the flora and fauna are rich in activity.

Heatherton World of Activities

If you’re struggling for inspiration on activities for February Half Term in Pembrokeshire, Heatherton in St Florence near Tenby is where to go. Open all year round, Heatherton World of Activities offers indoor and outdoor activities so you can visit no matter the weather, with an inflatable play zone to cater for toddlers and a dog agility course available for those with pets.

Activities on offer include: archery, bumper boats, baseball, go-karting, mini-golf, pistol shooting, peddle boats, a zipline and even mini sand diggers in the play area, plus many more. Entry to the park is free with credit passes available, making it an easy way to keep within budget if not everyone wants to take part.

Additionally, you can book paintball, escape rooms, treetops trails and indoor bowls - though these aren’t available as part of the credit pass and should be booked separately.

Archery at Heatherton

Wild Lakes Wales

Hidden away in the depths of rural Pembrokeshire, only a short drive from Carew and Narberth, you will find Wild Lakes Wales. Whilst there are activities you can do all year round such as indoor climbing, we suggest making it a part of your list of activities for May Half Term in Pembrokeshire to take advantage of the outdoors activities on offer too.

Wakeboarding is available from April onwards, Ringo Rides and access to the Aqua Park are both available from May. Both the wakeboarding and ringo rides are available in 15-minute sessions whilst Aqua Park sessions last 45 minutes - guaranteeing plenty of fun. There’s even Stoked Restaurant onsite offering coal and wood-fired cooked meals.
