Explore Remote & Mystical Islands
For those of you with a passion for wildlife, a Pembrokeshire boat trip is a must - you’re guaranteed to be greeted with incredible sights of seabirds, sea animals, flowers, plants and more. But there's also plenty of exploring to do for those who want to experience more than wildlife on our remote, mystical islands.
Some of Pembrokeshire’s wildlife highlights can be found offshore on the fantastic islands of Skomer, Ramsey, Grassholm and Caldey to name a few. Best enjoyed in the summer months, each one has something different to offer.
Skomer Island is often the most famous due to the presence of characterful puffins. Small in size but mighty in wildlife, this isle off the coast of the Dale peninsula welcomes visitors for landings from a departure point at Martins Haven Beach.
The RSPB island of Ramsey is a designated SSSI area where you’ll find endangered bird species like chough and inlets sprinkled with seal pups come September. Take a jet trip around and explore the caves spotting porpoise or land on the island for a self-guided tour.
At Grassholm, you’ll find a whitewashed island home to 10% of the world’s population of gannets. One of the RSPB’s oldest nature reserves sees some 39,000 pairs of breeding gannets a year.
Caldey Island near Tenby is an important conservation area for pheasants, black swans, red squirrels and partridges. This thrift-clad isle is home to a monastery with a quaint village and beautiful sandy bay to explore.
